Will Demps be gone if we don't make the playoffs?

Or will he get yet another chance since this is obviously year 1 of a mini-rebuild?

I think you all know where I stand.

This is not a "I want him gone thread"...

But a "WILL he be gone thread?"

When does his contract run out?

I don't think we are privy to that information.

Hopefully gone he's had enough time to build a playoff team and outside of one year he's failed to do so

Based on the previous standards I think if they hit the Over of 37 he's safe, as long as they look like they're improving. Ferry makes things interesting though. If Loomis fires Demps he doesn't necessarily have to spend his valuable time doing a new GM search which wasn't the case last year.

The bigger contract impediment is probably Gentry. Do you really want to bring in a new GM without firing the coach? Gentry still has almost $4 million guaranteed after this year. Another reason why Ferry could make sense as a replacement. He might be more willing to put up with Gentry for a year while he puts his plan in place.

I think if you're firing the GM you have to understand that you're giving him the option of firing the coach after this year.

And yes, the Ferry situation is definitely on my mind. He did hire Budenholzer, right? Which is a good hire. His hires in Cleveland are obviously abysmal.

I would think that loomis would either keep both demps and Gentry or neither of them. I can't see anyway he fires one and it the other

Unless this team makes major improvements in w's and L's this season both Demps and Gentry will be gone.

IMO if they don't get to the high 40's in wins both are gone.

who knows....monty was playoffs or bust. he made the playoffs and still busted.

verrier was on the dunc'd on pels preview and made it sound like demps is "in" w/ loomis & benson. i can buy that; he's made it this long- why fire him now?

Because he's been to the playoffs once in 7 years?

after they just let him do a complete roster overhaul this past summer? that doesn't make any sense, then again that hasn't stopped ownership before.

also- who do you think is signing on to gm the pels with Davis's FA on the horizon and a weird ownership group? i'm betting it's a guy that says "hey Demps got 7 years! at least i'll have job security there!"

Monty or Monty's camp was pretty clearly his source at the time.

After this season you have 3 offseasons worth of moves to convince Davis not to force a trade. It will be tight, and if Hill is a bust that makes things more difficult, but if Demps/Gentry get fired this year the replacement would have more time to remodel than Demps did initially.

Considering the absurdity of the summers fa season I thought dell/ferry did as well as you could have hoped for

3-4 years is "on the horizon"?

In that case pretty much every job is like that.

well no. not every job has an anthony davis

we know you want demps gone. if you want me to say "yes, they'll fire hime if they miss the playoffs" there you go.

they missed their chance to remodel in a way to raise the ceiling this past season. should have gone all out for the lottery balls around the new year.

assuming ownership allows that, which is why many think jvg didnt get the job. again, what changes their thinking?

i agree. said so many, many times. i like the changes. people expecting playoffs this year are fooling themselves. doesn't mean they won't compete. but they need another summer to find more playmaking, shooting, and frontcourt help

Testy.

And no that isn't what I want you to say. You're one of the smartest posters on here. I don't think AD leaving in potentially 4 years drives a GM away.

Unstable ownership and not having the freedom to do what you want with the roster and coach are certainly problems.
