I am guessing if we don't get this straightened out quickly the chances of him sticking around NO is slim to none?

Once we tank and get Ben Simmons, he'll want to stick around.

As an LSU fan I'm really hoping that we get him in NOLA. I hate to see us wasting his college career.

The 5 year extension he signed this summer doesn't start until next season.

Wasn't there a sticky at one time detailing all the money he would be passing up if he were to bolt after his rookie contract?

Now, only a few months after signing the second contract, we need another sticky detailing its length?

We have six years to turn this around. Tank is inadvertantly engaged this season. Get Simmons in the lottery and give him 3 years to blossom. Championship in years 4,5 &6. Why would he want to leave that?

If DeMarcus Cousins hasn't demanded a trade yet, AD certainly won't.

No he won't. Year 4 of his new contract is when we have to worry.

We need to be super competitive by then (2nd round at least) and on the rise. If we aren't, I wouldn't blame him for leaving. He will have given us a long time to get it right.

But we have time...we just need to strike now.

I think he understands what is going on this year (at least, I hope so).

If we fire Gentry after this season and hire an AD-friendly HC, and show some improvement, he stays.

If we miss the playoffs NEXT year too, unless it's a situation with AD having a major injury, I think he will want out at that point.

We had better hope Chicago has some great trade pieces in a few years.

AD is supposed to be the superstar though. He is "your guy" that your building around, it's on him now to lead it. Name one superstar (not melo) that would let his team be 7-18. At what point do you hold AD accountable?

If we win he stays.

He has already said on multiple occasions he respects guys like Duncan that stayed with a franchise and built a dynasty. Sure he might just be repeating some clever PR sound bites fed to him but he seems pretty genuine.

However if we don't right this ship in the next few years, he is going to start looking for better prospects. Any player would, including Duncan.

I somewhat agree...especially at the beginning of the season where it seemed like he was taking plays off and not really hustling on the Def. end of the floor.

I don't know how a superstar on a poorly constructed and poorly used roster "lets" his team be 7-18.

AD should be held accountable for not playing well when it fits. But I'm not holding him accountable any more than any other player for this team's performance.

with the money AD received in that extension.. i don't think he'll care how bad it gets.. he'll be the top paid player until someone makes a bigger contract. Cant really complain there can you. I know we suck floppy donkey right now but its like...we can only get better from here lol..i'm just optimistic and trying to keep my head up

Sounds like we have four years to bring the ship home. If not he will undoubtedly go elsewhere.
