If we defer to 2025, then they could just trade the '24 pick after they make it, and i'm sure they can have an agreement in principle before the draft and whoever they are dealing with can basically make the pick.

So regardless of what we do, they can trade 3 firsts this offseason.
We could always work with them right now and do something like we'll do what you want us to this year, whether that's take the 24 pick now or the 25 pick now, whichever one they want us to announce now, and in exchange we want a pick swap with their '26 1st.

If it makes it easier for them to make a trade by us taking the 24 pick now, and we can get a future pick swap with them when Lebron is retired, then i'm all for that.

Hell if the season goes as is, i'd offer them that we'll give you the 2024 pick back, and just make it a pick swap for 2024, if they give us '26 and '28 pick swaps and 2 2nds.

Then they could theoritcally trade the '24 pick after it's made, the '25 pick, and the '29 and '31 pick.

Biggest thing with Clingan and Edey is that they are so massive I don't see them playing effectively in the style we like. Both guys will be mostly half court rim protectors. The thing that makes JV work even with his defensive limitations is his ability and willingness to run up and down the floor consistently on top of the offensive skills he brings to the table.

There seem to be a bunch of centers projected in the mid first. Three of them (Kyle Filipowski of Duke, Donovan Clingan of UCONN, and Kel’el Ware of Indiana) all seem interesting either due to outside shooting / projected NBA 3 point shooting or overall package.

If the plan is to replace JV or Nance long term and we don’t have a deal in mind after the lottery, using the Laker pick to get one of these guys isn’t a horrible plan.

If you're taking about the long term, Ivisic is the guy I'd go after in the draft and re-sign JV to a 2 year deal and give Ivisic time to get ready. Kind of like the way Miami is developing Jovic.

Filipowski seems like more of a stretch four than a 5 to me.

Yes, no matter what Lakers will have 3 picks available to trade the day of the draft.

Either 24/25, 29 and 31

They are probably hoping we keep the 24 pick so it gives them extra time to find a trade using 25. Personally i say defer to 25 but wait until the last possible moment to say you’re deferring to give them as little time as possible to trade 24 pick before being on the clock at the draft.

Yes, but a pick in the current draft is always significantly more valuable than a future pick.

And my general point is that the Lakers are going to use all three to try to get another star. It's very unlikely that the Lakers 2025 pick will be better than this year's, although injuries are always a possibility (how we got Dyson).

This is not true at all in the NBA. Football, yes. But not NBA

Yeah completely agree. There will be guys going in the first round this year that if they came out last year may go in the second round. This years draft is complete crap.

Let’s get LeBoo Jr. and stash him in Europe preferably near Ukraine.

Lebron will be like 40. What young stud is hitching their future to grandpa and a beta bitch. Lakers are dreaming.

It’s more likely Lebaby leaves and jumps to a loaded team to chase one last ring

You defer... you defer.... you defer. Weak draft. Another year of Lakers stars getting older. It's more valuable this summer in trades as a future pick.

This is one of the worst drafts in a long long time. We are 2/3rds of the way through the college season and scouts don't have a consensus on 2 players that will go top 5. This along with the CBA was a big reason the trade market was so weak. No one wants to hop in this draft
