It's been the "Entergy three point powershot" since as long as I can remember.

Why do they need to advertise? It's not like you have a choice of electric companies on the south shore. Seems like it's just increasing their costs which in turn increases your rates.

Entergy and Cleco do compete against each other in expanding/new rural neighborhoods. Surprised that it's worth it for them to advertise, but I'll trust people that do it for a living over my conceptions.

Are their rates controlled by the state?

If so, that's why they advertise.

I don't know. I had no idea that they competed against each other at all until an interview with Cleco for a distribution planning position. Once one "wins" a neighborhood, that's it. Most states are the same way, which is fricking awful.

It looks good to be part of the community.

That makes sense for a typical monopoly like Coke or Microsoft. Entergy is a government mandated monopoly. To me, it would make more sense to take that advertising money and stick it in the pockets of politicians.

Because it's a bad look when the only time people hear your name is when the bill comes and you frick up the Superbowl.

Thats something that is nice about Texas. Unless you live in a co-op territory you can choose your power company.

They can also only keep so much profit I believe. After a certain threshold they are required to return excess profits to the consumer as a rebate since they are a legalized monopoly. As such they have nothing to lose by advertising as it will decrease profits.

Because they're a big sponsor? They advertise on tv. Good will? Politics?

Association with a beloved product helps keep them in a good image in the city. It's well worth the money to them to do that.

entergy is the only F500 company in the city.
its HQ is right next door.
the arena (and the dome) are HUGE customers of entergy.
it would be unfathomable that they would not support the team

They may have been a part of the initial relocation package or something? Or maybe they don't charge the Arena for electricity or give them discounts for the (minor) advertising that otherwise exceeds what the Arena/Pellies/Hawnits could have gotten from a free market sponser? Or maybe they buy a suite each year and that's part of the deal, fellow Pellie bro?

My electricity bill averages $55 in Dallas for a 3,000 sqft house. Love the deregulation here.

I do have a gas water heater, stove and furnace.
