Obviously Monty isn't the guy, and tonight just put the last nail in the coffin for him

Mike Brown is one of the winningest HCs of all time.
Mark Jackson is somehow still at home I think.
Avery has been pretty successful also.

All 100,000,000x better than Monty

It will probably be a combo of Avery Johnson as coach and Joe Dumars as GM.

I'd take D'antoni for this team.

McNamara goes in

quote:

If the goal is to win a championship, Monty has not shown anything to make us believe that he will be able to get the Pelicans to that level of play. He is a dedicated, well-intended man, but it is nearly impossible to be the best team out of 30 without a superior basketball mind at the helm. Monty’s destiny is most likely to be an elite assistant coach, but there is nothing in his resume that screams ‘basketball genius.’

says fire him before the break so that the good coaches can prepare for the opening in april.

Shaka smart, hoiberg, calipari mentioned as desirable

I think I'd try to stay away from first time NBA head coaches with this team, though Hoiberg certainly has NBA experience.

In my dream world, they snake Budenholzer from ATL. In reality, Alvin Gentry would be a target for me.

Karl perfect roster for him. Sorry I don't want Mark Jackson we need a coach to curse out his players and make them play hard and scream on the side lines.

his wife grew up in Ames
both of their parents grew up in and still live in Ames

they call that dude the mayor for a reason. sure does seem like he's got his dream job and is never leaving

If you're going to leave for an NBA job it seems like you'd leave for the one where they have the best player in the world who's just 21. In general the college coaches don't interest me, but Hoiberg does. A guard that had to get by on skill and smarts, not talent, and has worked his way up through the ranks of coaching and front officing, the Kerr/Hornacek model. Unlike the Jackson/Kidd/Fisher model of former player with no coaching experience but known as good leaders. Also different from the Monty/Ty Corbin journeyman player -> journeyman coach model.

oh I want him bad
but he's never given any indication that he's anywhere other than the place he wants to be

he's as close to a superhero in Ames Iowa as you can get

Fred Hoiberg's nickname when he played in the NBA was "The Mayor". They didn't just start calling him that when he got to Ames fwiw

Nothing says he will leave. After all, he did leave an NBA FO job to coach at ISU. But he does have a huge buyout in his contract if he were to leave for the NBA.. So that possibility always will loom

I'd love D'Antoni for this team. Or Karl. We need to use AD's freak abilities - it's a crime that we're not. The city would really embrace a running team IMO. Might be similar to how we loved the Saints the three years that Brees was great in 2006, 2009 and 2011.
