He has to show how good he is first. He has to show that coming here presents players a great chance to win a ring. Right now, LeBron, Kawhi, and Giannis are more poised to do that. With Luka being next in line.

Our day is coming. Just need to keep being smart. There's going to be a player who demands a trade and we'll be right there with all the assets we could ever need to snap them up if we decide that's the move to make.

Most guys take like 5-7 years to obtain that type of drawing power. And besides, the Pelicans have to exhaust all of their resources in developing the current crop of young players, get lucky with the drafts, and make smart free agent signings in the meantime. The best we can hope for right now is for the Pelicans to create a special squad with the resources they have. They certainly have the time figure it out.

Give me Ibaka as a FA over Turner in a trade 100/100 times. I used to like the idea of Turner here but he’s a non factor so often in games

Now imagine you're the Pacers. What are you accepting as a trade to give up your valuable player that other teams also want. Keep in mind, Pacers are also very win now.

Some combo of Hayes, NAW, picks and some salary matching magic- might not be enough of a win now return for them.

They have Brogdon and Oladipo at guard, so that counts out Ball or Jrue as the main trade piece, as cool as it would be to have the Holiday trifecta on the same team. Pels aren't trading Ingram.

So what's your idea to trade for Myles Turner? Involve a 3rd team sending a win now player (A.Gordon?) for some Hayes, NAW picks combo? Could Hayes be even better than Turner soon? But Hayes would probably need to be included for value sake, if not including the top 4.

I like that idea a lot. Would we have enough cap space to offer a big contract that TOR wouldnt match? Ibaka would also make a great mentor for Hayes, helping his development and until he passes down of the starter reigns over to Jax.

Many people have discussed a Beal acquisition. I was just saying I would think you should be able to get Turner for less than Beal and he has a cheaper contract. I would think they would have to trade picks and players for him. The Pelicans have so many assets they should try to upgrade their role players if possible. They should be able to overpay to do that.

Maybe Turner isn’t available, but it was a suggested attempt to find the right fit instead of settling or hoping to hit on another lottery ticket.

The Pels do not really have room for anymore excess development players.

Trade Worthy Assets:
Melli
Hayes
NAW
Didi
Redick
2 Laker 1st round Picks
Pel’s have all of their future first round picks
Miller(can be used as filler)

This is assuming the other 4 starters are locked in. Favors was already making the contract Turner is so I would assume you would have to pay him around that to keep him.

Sign Ibaka as a FA

My understanding is that people around TOR believe that both Gasol and Ibaka could hit the market if Giannis does not sign his extension and TOR feels like they have a shot at him. If Giannis is not available, TOR will re-sign at least one and maybe even both. It’s also my understanding that people around TOR believe that if either hit the market, multiple contending teams will make a run at them. I really liked Ibaka’s (or Gasol’s) fit on this team and the idea of him being a stop gap while Hayes continues to develop. Unfortunately, I think the odds of signing Ibaka are not as good as they seem.

Favors market is definitely going to be interesting, but I don’t think it will cost as much as you think. Nate Duncan and John Hollinger just discussed Favors briefly on a recent podcast and both agreed that they thought he would cost a little more than the mid-level at most due to the undervaluing of the position and his injury history.

If the Pels want to go the stop gap route, Aron Baynes is another viable option. He’s unrestricted and PHO might not even try to re-sign if they think they have a shot at other targets. His market might be even harder to pin down than Favors though. I’ve seen projections anywhere from 1/5mill to 3/30+mill, so who knows.

I and many others have thought of Turner as a perfect fit at C for this team. Even rumors of Pels trying to trade for him last draft. But hard to find incentive for Pacers and a trade that works for both sides, both value-wise and with contract matching.

Also, Turner seems pretty slow and lumbering on the perimeter. Makes more sense to me to invest in a switchable defender at the 4 to play in small ball lineups with Zion at C.

He's not, no one ever has been.

If Lebron couldn't do it, Zion won't be able to do it.

Who was the last truly top 5-8 level elite free agent to choose a small market? Lebron excluded for obvious reasons, he was going back to a team he was already on that was also home, that's an outlier.
