Assuming the Pels keep playing the way they're playing, it doesn't look like there's space for Ryan in the rotation. It's a good problem to have.

If he does it means Zion/Trey/etc are hurt

He'd have been playing these last few games, with Trey out. But a healthy Trey Murphy won't leave many minutes for Matt Ryan. He won't be a regular rotation player.

Ryan will get spot duty when we need him due to injury or foul trouble, or if the offense starts to stagnate, and Willie feels that it needs a spark. Or in special situations, such as for a last offensive possession of a quarter or if we are making offense/defense substitutions at the end of a game.

I don't know if they should sign him to a real contract for cheap shooting depth to have when you need him like the Pels did to start the season, or treat him like found money and use him to help dump Kira and get under the tax. Like you said, a good problem to have.

Aren't we already looking for some avenue to get rid of someone to get under the tax? We going further into the tax for Matt Ryan?

I’m willing to bet he gets 10-15 mpg. Willie loves playing vets, and with his shooting it makes him even more appealing to play.

That’s not how this works. And if we do convert Matt Ryan to a contract before the playoffs then we most likely already made the move to get under the tax.

The Pels are currently $2.9 million over the tax. Kira makes $5.7 million. You send him out in a trade to get under the tax without taking anything back and you have room to convert Ryan. However, I just looked it up and converting his 2 way to a regular season deal keeps him from being traded for 3 months, so Ryan can't be part of a trade.

Was Kira's option picked up before we extended Herb? If they weren't planning on potentially using Kira in a trade (which would keep us in the tax, if not increase the tax), then I still don't get why we picked up his option.

The front office is currently in our good graces, but there's no way that they thought that Kira would end up being worth his QO, right? He was clearly behind CJ/Jose in our PG rotation.

We were dumb for picking up his option when he was injured.

Yes

I believe it had to be picked up he fore the start of last season.

I guess we assumed it would gr good to have for salary filler in a trade, a trade that gas yet to come for now.

Ryan is a guy we're gonna love having in case we go through an injury spurt again this year, otherwise he and Hawkins will not get regular minutes with everyone healthy this year.

Injuries and dips in form happen. He'll get his chance on the court again.

He’ll get a little time because he held up ok on D and did rebound. Willie loves Naji and Dyson though, as do I, but we gotta put some offensive minded lineups in.

Dyson got 26 minutes tonight. Willie is who he is. He will always prioritize his defensive lineups.

I like Willie but Griff may need to force the issue with roster construction. Well never take the next step if we don’t play our shooters the way we should. It’s holding us back.
