I have no idea who or what Demps is doing with that roster spot. But he wanted it today for a reason, one he likely already has lined up.

Dell Demps is at it again, waiving Gal Mekel to open up a roster spot for the New Orleans Pelicans

Saw a mention of this spot having to be cleared by 2:00 today for some reason, trying to find it

Because of CBA rules regarding trades, I fully expect Mekel's roster spot to be filled by 2 PM central time today.

@usnfish 2 months til trade deadline, & you can only aggregate new player's salary after 2 months. I expect a move very, very soon.

Why does the spot need to be filled by 2?

My first thought was we could be hoping Mekel clears waivers. We free up his roster spot, trade someone so we are able to get a target and also take on a non-guaranteed that we then buy out, and then re-sign Mekel?

i think we bring back Mekel, hence the hoping he clears waivers.

but who would we trade for that we can buy-out?

I think he's saying we're 2 months and 1 day out from the deadline so if you want the next signing/pick up to be part of a future trade you need to make it happen today.

NBA Trade Rumors: Boston Celtics willing to send Jeff Green to the New Orleans Pelicans for a first round pick

While this isn't false, I'd say it's a bit unrepresentative of the actual quotes in the articles. It combines a quote on our alleged interest with Boston's desires for a 1st. It's not like there's one rumor saying we're in discussions and offered a 1st.

jeff green is not worth a legit 1st rnd pick
i doubt seriously that boston gets that kind of offer

however:

salmons
ajinca
TBD min player
rivers
heavily protected 1st that is more likely to be (2) 2nds

gives celts cap relief, a cheap big, a guard project, and future 2nds

Ehhhh I kinda wanna hold onto rivers for now. Maybe that's just my hoarding tendencies. Salmons, ajinca and a guys night out package for green

Does Green have another year on his deal? I don't mind losing Rivers but not for a 1/2 year rental of Green.
