You don't want an inefficient chucker taking away shots from your star, but I don't mind one coming off the bench and keeping the offense afloat while AD rests. I have the same thoughts about Okafor and Vucevic.

When guys like that take away shots from your star and give you bad defense, it's a bet negative. But if they are taking shots instead of Ajinca or Galloway taking them, it can help you and their poor defense doesn't hurt you as much when the other team has reserves on the court

How would Gay take away shots from AD in a system like the one Gentry employs were he wants shots put up instantly anyways?? Gay is a seasoned former all star player that is a tremendous player and always has been. He has played on playoff teams before being shipped off to terrible teams that would cause any player to lose interest and focus. He would make the Pelicans a lot better with the leadership intangibles he would bring and all. I think they would be a playoff contender with him on the team paired with AD. You don't bring a player like that off the bench. The dude isn't just some inefficient chucker like you are trying to say. Lol
