SOURCES: DeJean-Jones is still in talks with #Pelicans (and other teams) for a deal to keep him in NBA through season, but not done tonight.

DeJean-Jones wants a longer-term deal (2-3 years) with a franchise. He's performed well for #Pelicans over past 20 days in several areas.

Can't go quite that high.

I'm sure BDJ wants as much guaranteed money as he can get, and Demps wants as many team options as he can get. There's also the trickiness of amount. To go 3 years and have full Bird Rights means we can only pay him $1.2 million. If we use the BAE we can pay him about $2 but only for 2 years in which case we'd only have Early Bird Rights or up to about $5.5 million.

Kushner on how confident he is on seeing BDJ play another game for the Pelicans:

Confident. The two sides both want the same result, with slightly different figures.

Only because his latest 10 day expired, so he technically isn't under contract.

Scott Kushner is probably the guy to follow for this, and this was his response when asked how confident he is in the Pels reaching a deal.

I wish they would get it done, and don't let let him get away. I'm not saying this guy a key player for the long term, but we have 0 young prospects on this roster. I can't imagine someone that was in the D-league a month ago asking for a king's ransom.

Interesting take from Oleh at TBW. Teams with open roster spots will probably keep them open through the trade deadline just in case which temporarily freezes out any other teams interested in offering BDJ more. LINK

Demps probably is offering a Melvin Ely contract that could be packaged and voided this summer while BDJ is no doubt seeking a guarantee for next year.

Dell just pay the man. He looks like a good prospect. I think he is good role player.

Imagine Eric Gordon, only instead of Ok Scoring + Ok Passing he's got Ok Scoring + Decent Rebounding, and instead of $15 million you're paying less than $2 million. The one thing that remains to be seen is how legit his 38.5% 3 point percentage is. He was never more than a low 30's 3 point shooter in college and DLeague, but for the moment it looks like we might have a guy that can replace a lot of what we wanted from Gordon at a much better price.

Your post is just as much an overreaction as your claiming other posts to be. BDJ looks like a better NBA player than most of our current roster 11 games into his rookie season. Not difficult to see why people want him signed.
