The annual GM survey is out, there's a whole lot of bulletin board material for the Pels

Every year the NBA asks GMs to predict things like champion, MVP, etc. This is GMs guessing so only slightly more informed than ESPN talking heads guessing. 80% thought the Lakers would win the West last season

- In Western Conference rankings it's a dead heat between the Clippers and Warriors. 1 GM picked the Pels to finish 4th in the West. The total votes put the Pels 9th and the Lakers 8th.
- The Pels were tied for 2nd for teams expected to be most improved. Tied with the Cavs with the Clippers 1st.
- The Pels also got honorable mention for most promising young core.
- MVP, they expect Luka to win and Zion didn't make the list.
- Zion did make the list of players expected to have a breakout season. A list that looks like a disrespectful seat at the kiddie table.
- The list of top defenders included some familiar names like Jrue, but Herb was nowhere to be found.
- Willie Green got an honorable mention for receiving votes for coach that is the best motivator
- And rounding out the list CJ and Garrett Temple received votes for players that would make the best head coach some day.

The league doesn't know that the Pels are stacked and it is fricked.

Did I dream the 2020-2021 season?

I struggle to see how both of these can be true.

I thought the same thing. Makes no sense, especially if the Lakers aren’t on the more improved list. Logically doesn’t make sense

That sounds about right. The Pelicans are expected to be the 2nd most improved and yet will finish worst than last season. /s

The GMs surveys are almost always based on the previous season (besides the obvious offseason questions) and are not really worth thinking about.

I want Zion to think about how the league not only put him at the kiddie table, but views him as less likely to "break out" than Evan Mobley.

To be fair though, from the outside looking in, they don’t really know what breaking out means for a guy like Zion who was putting up 27 on insane efficiency the last time he played.

I don't even understand it as I assume a player can only have 1 breakout season, and 27 and 7 on 60% shooting, if that isn't a breakout season, I'm not sure what is.

Mobley has a ton of people expecting him to be All Pro this year. Rusillo and Simmons had him top 25 in the trade value cast. So maybe not as much as an indictment against Zion, as much as praise for Mobley..

I'm not really interested. Those things are usually filled out by some new intern. As such, they simply mimic popular opinions. Their only real value is in cementing the conventional wisdom.
