Lopez
This obviously doesn’t mean a whole lot just thought I would share for discussion.

I mean small sample size indeed, but being THAT high means we are on the right track at the very least.
Also glad to see us almost dead last in pace. No more pace and space bullshite. Real basketball.
No defensive rank numbers? I imagine those are at least decent.

I know I'm in the minority but i actually like the pace being low. We have two hyper efficient scorers in Ingram and Zion, and i feel like each could average ~20 attempts a game. If we have say 40 possessions that end in one of those 2 having a shot attempt then i like how we stack up against just about anyone.
Also, i during Lowe's interview with SVG over the summer they discussed why the defense was better with Zion when he was obviously a bad defender. A big part they felt was his free throw attempts being high. Which allowed the defense to be set more often. I think this is very underrated when predicting defensive efficiency. Theres a reason harden never has a bad defense rating when he's horrid in actual play. So less possessions with a higher percentage of them ending in free throws allows more often preset defenses. Should lead to a greatly improved defense rate.
All little things when the biggest is SVG tbh. And while of course those numbers are skewed, i think they portend what type of team we will be this year.

Doesn't mean much, but I would certainly rather that we look good in the preseason than bad.
I know that someone will bring up that we looked good in the preseason last year and then sucked once the games counted, but of course, the main reason that happened was Zion's injury.

Also take into account not as much game planning in preseason, which means Gentry's coaching came into effect much less and the talent shone much more.
I only think we could get better, not worse, under SVG.
And yes Zion's injury, weight, and minute restrictions were also huge factors.
If he was going to be limited in minutes a better coach would have made sure a lot of those came to close the game out, not taking him out with 5 minutes left.

Pretty sure offense wasn’t why we made a change.

Please sons. Don't let the Preseason Pels do this to you again. It only leads to pain

quote:That’s just not true. He’s a pretty good defender 1 on 1, an average team defender, and an elite post defender. Harden would often guard bigs in the post and was one of the best in the league at it regardless of size.

That one video that cherry-picked his defensive lapses really ruined his reputation on that end of the floor.
He’s much better defensively than most people give him credit for.

Harden can be a good defender when he tries. Historically, there have been lots and lots of games when he simply hasn't put forth effort. That's why he has the rep that he does.

That’s not true either. There will be times when it seems he takes a play off. Or doesn’t put enough effort when helping. But he never takes games off. And he’s also gotten much better about even taking plays off.
People still think he’s the same player that he was 7 years ago.
He has the rep that he does because people don’t really watch him play apart from highlights. And they love to find something to hate on. Defensive lowlights fit the bill perfectly for casual fans.

quote:Yep, I always complained about Gentry's pace and how our squad didn't really fit that type of scheme.
I know I'm in the minority but i actually like the pace being low
Adding in Adams compounds that. I'm not sure I want it to be 29th or how much it matters and exactly where it is, I just know we're probably better off if it's not on the top 5.

Yeah with only having two preseason games, you have to factor in that main rotation players got a good bit of run against lower level players in the 4th quarters.
All in all, it is still good to see those numbers.

do you have some kind of alert set to rush over here and defend harden every time he gets mentioned? It’s kinda creepy
go wash his balls someplace else

I venture to this board about once a week just for the basketball talk. If I happen to come across a nonsense post about the Rockets, I’m gonna respond to it.
