Wish they'd quit messing with the format. So the champion has to play an extra game that doesn't even count in the standings? What BS!

But if they win, i think each player gets an extra 500k..not much to some but to others, it’s a nice payday i would imagine.

They are about to charge their TV partners 3 times more than they are charging them now, so they wanted to create some more premium inventory for TV to help make up for the price increase.

Why are people all pissy about this? NBA is trying to make these games matter. Honestly, I don’t think its a horrible idea. People just don’t like change.

Because they're trying to tell us that a handful of games in the regular season that have never mattered more than the others, matter more now, but they aren't giving us a good reason why. So far all fans get out of this is literal window dressing with new uniforms and courts.

Maybe if the players care about it, the fans will care too, but we won't know until we get there. I don't even know what we're supposed to root for. Cinderella like in March Madness and maybe some young upstart team like the Spurs going on a hot streak? Denver rolling through the tournament like it's the regular season and their players getting extra money? Again, what's in it for the fans?

What do you mean whats in it for the fans? To cheer for your team. What else do you want? They’re giving a free beanie away on Saturday if thar helps.

This tournament is more to keep players more interested which in turn fans can go out and watch them play competitively. They’re trying to give you a better product.

It seems to be a money grab by the owners. Who will give a shite about the tourney when we get to the NBA Finals?

I'm "pissy" about it because our two star players that are made of glass might have to play an extra game that doesn't even count in the standings.

If they really had balls the NBA would say the winner has increased lottery odds

Adam Silver has said multiple times that the in-season tournament is inspired by European soccer, where they have multiple “cups” throughout the year that teams try to win in addition to their regular season championship

Some don’t matter all that much, others are a pretty big deal and impact how fans view the team, coaches, players, etc.

I think it could be cool if a team that has never won the NBA finals wins the in-season tournament, gets to hold up the trophy, etc.

Weird thing to spend time being pissy about considering how low the odds are of it happening.

If they wanted it to matter the winner of the tourney should get an auto bid into the playoffs

Well when BI and Zion get hurt and miss multiple games by bumping into someone I'd rather that not be a possibility at all.
