Shamit Dua thinks we need to get Towns or Kristaps even if it means trading Ingram or CJ.

Agree? Time to let loose Ingram or CJ?

I think whatever the Pels do this summer, they should get a high volume 3pt attempt big man. The team just will never be a high volume team if both of the bigs don't shoot. Kristaps and Towns are who I'm looking. Yes that means trading one or more of your big salary players.

I would let loose Zion. He doesn’t play, why keep him…?

KAT and Porzingis miss a lot of time too.

Wouldn’t mind hanging onto CJ and see how he fits with other pieces, not as primary ball handler. I get he has been frustrating lately and turns the ball over, but he’s a cultural anchor, and can actually stay healthy and play thru injury. He needs to play off ball like in Portland.

BI and Zion are unstoppable when healthy, but you can’t keep going thru every year like this.
Idk…maybe it’s Aaron Nelson and the training staff that needs to be traded.

Rather than wasting a 7 footer 30 ft from the basket, the Pels can likely achieve a similar result in a more traditional way by (1) getting a good stretch 4/5 to backup Zion, and (2) swapping one of our D specialists that’s in the rotation for a shooter with size, also likely without having to bail on our big 3.

**I feel like we still have too many guys that either need to play PG, or are undersized at SG (in CJ/Dyson/Jose/Kira) too and would like to turn a one or two of those guys into another shooter with size and/or depth at the 5.

PG: CJ/Jose/Kira
SG: BI/Dyson
SF: Trey/Cam Johnson*
PF: Zion/Kelly Olynyk*/EJ Liddell
C: Larry/Billy

*Could be other specific players but this is the concept (about $30mm to use…closer to $25mm if you don’t include Naji/Herb to trade)

Doing it that way adds to the teams depth and provides more lineup flexibility, which is badly needed with fragile stars.

The cap gets tight this way, but should be able to stay under the the luxury tax filling in the roster with minimums (and/or by keeping either of Naji/Herb if not traded in the upgrade).

If we trade Ingram for Kristaps Porzingis I would blow a gasket.

The more Shamit writes the more I'm unimpressed.

Because in the NBA you rarely get franchise level players so you hold on as tightly as you can to them when you have them. Zion took a good first step last offseason hiring a professional chef and trainer. He can do even more on his own to keep his body in peak condition. He also can do things on the court to reduce his injury risk like shoot more. Until you try those things and he still never plays, you keep Zion. It’s just too soon to give up on him because you usually don’t get even close to equal value back in these situations.

As for the OP I don’t like the thought of either KAT or Porzingis on this team. Both have injury issues and KAT seems soft and is on a max contract.

However trying to figure how we add shooters to this roster that Willie would actually play is pretty hard. He often doesn’t want to play Trey. Trey may not be good at defense, but he’s better than a lot of
shooters you would bring in. Would he play a Luke Kennard type?

Getting a 3 point shooting big might be the only roster move that works with Willie even though I am very opposed to adding the specific players mentioned and would not personally go in that direction.

This 100%…I’m all for defense but the Pels are struggling to score 100 points in the modern NBA.

IMO Kira getting only 3 minutes per half last night was criminal…he didn’t shoot well the last game, but he is literally our best % shooter over the season, creates a physical mismatch at guard with his speed (which is badly needed with BI/Zion out), and had the only positive +/- on the team. Instead we ground it out with our non-shooters to the tune of 22 turnovers and 96pts.

You simply can’t roll out lineups with 3-4 nonshooters and expect it to work…might as well forfeit.

He can block shots. His defense overall is OK.

This is the healthiest season Porzingis has had since his first few years in the league. After year 2, 57 is the most games he has played in the previous 5 years. I just would have no confidence adding him to this injury cursed roster.

KAT is the same. He was healthy early in his career, but 3 of the last 4 years he's played in 50 or fewer games.

Pels aren't in bad shape, I believe they really need only quality backups for Zion, BI, and CJ to better replace any of the 70 pts. collectively they give you and a defensive oriented center who can protect the rim and space the floor. Good news is that might already be on the roster.

Team needs to really get into TM3 and Hayes heads that they have to get physically stronger this off-season. TM3 and Hayes 10-15lbs of good weight would do so much for this team. Both have shown they function well as spacers (TM3 horizontally and Hayes vertically). I love both Jose and Kira, but with Dyson's development one may need to be moved. At that point, only a movement shooter (similar to CJ) needs to be acquired.

Despite the disappointment so far this year, folks need to keep in mind that we have a very young team (who are going to get better) sans Val,CJ, and Nance who are arguably in their prime. I would hate to see them sacrifice developing players that you can grow with for expediency. Something like

CJ/Dyson/(Jose or Kira)
BI/Acquired movement shooter
Herb/Naji
Zion @265/TM3 @225/Liddell
Hayes @ 230/Nance/Val

Bro its so hilarious still seeing y’all make future starting line ups with Zion in it ???? let it go kids he will never be a reliable starter at this point it’s just delusional to keep believing so

hayes was not extended.

he will not be a pel next season.

even if he suddenly rebounds and defends like rodman the rest of season and helps upset denver in round one he will not be a pelican.
someone will offer starting job and money to Rodman-hayes.

I would love it if this would work, but I think it’s wishful thinking. Trey has never been a very good rebounder for his size even in college. He probably plays more powerfully now than ever.

Still, that backup 4 is a key hole, so the Pels need a strategy to fill it, and preferably with someone that can space the floor.

I have more confidence in Jax continuing to develop like you are hoping (bigs often develop slowly and Jax is still young), but his demonstrated lack of maturity is scary.

I don’t think we can keep Jax and make 2 moves while staying under the cap, so if we keep him, then JV’s is the next movable contract and only gives us about $15mm.

Not a no, but a HELL no to KAT.

He is a really unique player, but offensively he's best used inside, not outside. Similar to embiid, you do not relegate him to the 3pt line.

And, financially to both being in their essentially last year...we're talking about paying either a max after? Nope, can't happen.

KP also has the injury log sheet that is gonna make you wanna gauge your eyes out even worse

I think they have 3 long term starters on the roster in Trey, Dyson and Zion. I'm not saying BI isn't a long term starter, but we probably won't know the answer to that question until they play at least 20 straight games together, preferably in a Zion centric system. The good news is if BI isn't the right fit, he should have enough value to get you a piece that fits better. Then you just have to figure out that 5th starter/finisher.
