We all know we need an upgrade at the 3. Ideally, someone who has solid perimeter defensive skills AND is at least enough of a shooter to attract some attention and space the floor. Even if he's only a 12 - 18 pt per night guy.

I swear I've looked at available FA's, realistic trade possibilities and the draft. I can't come with a solution that I like.

This has been discussed to some extent, I know, but I'd be interested in hearing opinions on realistic possibilities on this specifically.

Aminu did just shoot a career high fg% last season

That would be a massive upgrade. Iguodola is the most obvious answer, but I have a feeling he'll either find a more attractive situation and/or more money somewhere else.

The best SF that are realistically available that I am aware of are:

Ig
Corey Brewer
Martell Webster
Dorrel Wright

I'd honestly rather go with aminu for one more year and try out different loe cost options than sign a decent sf to a huge contract

If Aminu opens the season at the starting SF, we're fricked.

What about another banger down low, and move Anderson and AD to that 3\4 position at time? Say a player like big baby, Ryno big baby and Anderson 5,4,3...

Just saying cause I don't see any valuable options either. Tracy Mcgrady?

If we can't get Iggy, I'd like for us to try and get Webster.

Yeah its pretty much gonna be one of these 4

I'd also like to re-sign Aminu. I think he'd be a great backup

I just don't see us getting a guy via free agency. I really think we either trade for our sf of the future or we trade for a guy who could step in and be a short term solution there and try out luck in the draft or free agency next year.

I could see us trading for a SG who can also pay SF. A guy like Courtney Lee maybe? He's just the first guy that comes to mind. Denver also has plenty of guys we could use not counting Iggy. The most realistic trade Imo would be one for a guy like Shawn Marion. He's cheap and I think Dallas wouldn't mind parting ways with him.

All in all, I see us making a change at sf this offseason, I just don't see it being a big splash.

He'd probably be cheap if I had to guess

Marion is making $10m this year. Dallas would almost certainly give up the 13th pick (which they're also trying to dump) for a team to take him. Problem is it would kill our FA before it started.

Yea it would kill our free agency. But he has only one year left on his contract. And I'm not thrilled about this FA class anyway. Trading for Marion gives us a short term solution at SF, and gives us the option of either using that cap space next year or trading him at the deadline for assets.

I would be fine with any of these guys starting at SF for us next season:

Iggy
Wright
Budinger
Webster
Brewer

Of them, I think Budinger has the most upside when factoring his age, athleticism, and shooting ability. Though I drool at the thought of a facilitator from the 3 spot like Iggy.

I'd like Budinger. Any idea of how much money he'd require? Iggy would obviously give this team the biggest boost. It's just a matter of whether or not he's worth spending all of our money on.

Budinger would likely come down on a 1 year deal since he's recovering from ACL surgery. I'm sure he'll check out fine considering how effective these surgeries have been the past decade, so I don't see much risk.

The price would be right with Budinger but, to be honest, I haven't watched him a lot. Not sure of his athleticism.

Plus a white guy named "Chase" should have gone to Duke.

Or Pels could draft+sign Porter/Shabazz/Oladipo on rookie contracts and have plenty of room to sign a different position of need. Thus if Aminu shows out and wins the spot, its good for us and ups his trade value. If he doesn't, Monty buries him on the bench, gives the rook some run, and we release him next season. Frankly a player with a higher turnover rate (15.9) than PER (13.2) is not rly a building piece despite his "defensive potential."
