So with the salary cap slated to increase 21 mil for 2016/17 season. With AD taking Max money and being out from EG's contract. We should be on good shape to sign/resign some talent and not have to give away all our draft picks just to get decent bench guys.

Am I missing anything in this outlook/ assessment? I'm trying to keep this as simple/ big picture as possible.

We only have 3 contracts for that season:

Evans - $10.2M
Holiday - $11M
QPon - $3.6M

That's $24,821,733 without Davis. Davis would bring it to $49M if the rumored numbers are true. We will definitely sign or extend people between now and then, so it's hard to say how much space we'll have.

A lot really depends on what we do this year. With our current commitments, AD/Jrue/Reke/QPon we'd have $35 million in cap space on a $89 million cap. Keep Asik for $11 and that goes down to $24. Cole for $3 down to $21. Replace/keep Gordon for $10, and you have $11 left. Keep Anderson for $8.5 and you are $2.5 under the cap. Add an MLE guy this year and...well you see how quickly the cap space disappears.

Sign Asik to a 1 year deal this year and you can turn Asik and Anderson's cap space into something like Batum/Deng + Pachulia/$5ish million center. Still not your 2nd star but probably a more balanced use of cap space.

It really depends on how we approach things. If Demps and Monty were fired this offseason, I would be willing to bet our new GM would sign a bunch of 1 year deals this year in order to try and knock it out of the park in 2016.

But with Dell and Monty seemingly needing to do better and better every year to keep their jobs, they are going to constantly try and sign players and not worry about future cap situations.

So we really can't know.

Yeah, it really is hard to project. We have no clue what kind of deal Asik will get. We might sign a multi-year player with the MLE. Might restructure Gordon. Might bring Anderson back or trade him for players signed through that season. Might add a 2016 1st to the books if Dell doesn't throw it in a draft day trade.

Too many possibilities. We will have options though

I'm assuming we'll have a little over 40 mil in space considering the above.

Cole will likely get a contract around what qpon has.

Asik will get 9-10 mil

Ajinca will get resigned to a reasonable deal and DC for cheap.

Whatever MLE guy we get for 5mil+draft pick next year.

That leaves you with 18-20 mil with a roster of:

Jrue/Cole
Tyreke/2016 pick?
Qpon/MLE 2015
AD/Dante
Asik/Ajinca

Whatever we get back from moving ryno/eg could easily change the above so who knows

That would be ideal, but you might strike out. Everyone will have cap space that summer. Hopefully AD is a big enough attraction to bring in a few big time free agents. Conley, Batum, or someone of that caliber would be a big addition.

I guess if you miss on free agents you still have Asik/Anderson Bird rights.

We wouldn't be the only team with new money though, every one would have money to spend and we might have to over pay to go address certain needs. I'm just working on understanding the smaller stuff that goes with the NBA such as contracts and stuff.

That seems to be the way of the NBA, unfortunately.

Same with NFL qb's. Even the avg guys want to be paid like elite, mainly cause Shiite teams will pay big money for a QB who is decent.
