The Pistons have received permission from New Orleans to interview Pelicans assistant Jarron Collins for their head coaching job, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Detroit is expected to begin interviews this week. Collins was a three-time championship assistant with Warriors.

Griff needs to shine up his lucky penny. Nothing against Collins, but it seems like Willie could use a more veteran lead assistant.

There's not too many assistants I want to keep, if any at all tbh

I wish him the best of luck. Really rooting for him to get the job.

I hope he gets it. The more changes to staff the better.

Jarron Collins-guided defenses have posted two top-6 finishes in the last three years. Warriors were 5th in 2020-21. Pelicans finished this season 6th, tied for their best ranking in defense in franchise history.

Now Willie skewing rotations and focus to defense at the expense of the offense makes a lot more sense. His #2 was responsible for the defense.

Detroit, Defense Wins Championships.

Feels like Tspoon, Vinson, and Brewer are the only ones we hear positive things about

But, what if it turns out our over-performance on the defensive end turns out to be because of Collins, rather than Willie?

We needed some balance. I felt like I was watching SVG all over again at times this year. If Willie had been more balanced in his rotations or use of JV, the Pels could easily have 3-5 more wins. And I think that's being conservative.

If Collins goes maybe we need to bring in a new DC too, but the Pels have good defenders, so they should be able to build a good defense.

From the Athletic:

quote:

Per team and league sources, Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Charles Lee, New Orleans Pelicans assistant coach Jarron Collins and Overtime Elite head coach Kevin Ollie are the current, early front-runners for Detroit’s first-chair vacancy. Lee and Ollie were two names high on Detroit’s list going into the process and have both interviewed with team executives. Collins, too, was someone the organization was very interested in going into the process and, according to league and team sources, had a stellar interview.

Seems like a weird list for Detroit. I would call Nick Nurse if I was the Pistons.

That has to be a timing issue, right? Like this list was shared before the Nurse news went public.

Yeah, I would think they will go hard after Nurse now.

How did things end between Casey and Nurse after Nurse took his job in Toronto? Because Casey didn’t get fired by Detroit, he said it’s time for a new voice and took a job in the front office.

Trajan is rumored to be on Washington’s short list for GM also alongside Massai and Tim Connely.

Can anyone take Aaron Nelson off of our hands while they are at it?
