With Lance only being partially guaranteed, he could still be released if someone interesting gets released from another team.

pels dont have any cap space
they would have a little if they hadnt re-signed gee in the first gotdamn place. all they did there was wipe their asses with 1.4MM in space and flush it

this team is so fricking stupid it drives me up the wall

I don't think this was stupid. Remember how the Gee optout happened, he took for ever to decide and it seemed like he really didn't want to opt out. Pure speculation but I believe the team promised to pick him back up if he opted out and didn't find anything else. They didn't flush $1.4 million in cap space, they flushed the extra $100kish raise he got for opting out and giving the team flexibility during Free Agency.

Especially considering our lack of quality SF depth basically since the team moved here.

don't want to speak for cgrand, but the stupid part would be giving Ajinca/Asik each 4 years guaranteed and a guy like Gee a player option

Did they have the cap space available to pay him more so he'd give up the player option on what was a barely above minimum deal? Maybe they had some exception space left but I think things were pretty tight when they signed Gee to the 2 year deal.

perhaps. larger point is giving a replacement level player (like Gee or Babbitt IIRC) a player option is strange to me
