nola.com reports

quote:

A deal could be finalized as soon as Thursday.

McCalebb, who plays points guard, has never played in the NBA after finishing his career at UNO in 2008 as the Sun Belt's all-time leading scorer. His 2,679 career points ranks 24th all-time in NCAA history.

When he didn't get an NBA opportunity out of college, McCalebb went on to have a successful career in Europe. He's won championships in Serbia, Turkey and Italy and was named the Italian League MVP in 2012, an award once won by NBA players Manu Ginobili and Danilo Gallinari.

Wouldn't buying him out be pretty expensive? No way he'd just be a camp body.

I remember watching him play for UNO. Dude was a beast

Weird.

There are a few examples of domestic players doing well overseas for that long and then coming back to the NBA...but there can't be many.

I mean...he's 30 and has never played in the nba. This would be a really awesome story if he makes it.

Someone is getting cut though.

My guess is that either Webster or Adrien will be cut. I think they'll want to see what they have in Jordan and Begic. I don't think Webster has a shot at this point so his preseason minutes will go to McCalebb.

I am surprised Bo never got a shot in the NBA. It may be a little too late for him though.

He was pretty damned good in college. That's what I remember. Interesting development.

I always remembering hearing teams were interested in him, but I think he just chose to stay in Italy/Turkey because he was making more money there than he could here, and he was winning championships over there.

His last deal was a short term one so he shouldn't have a buyout. In fact last offseason he was a FA with no buyout but still ended up in Europe. He may not be a camp body, but he's no more guaranteed to be here long term than Squeaky was.

he always had opportunities. He almost signed with Spurs I believe but being a star in Europe and making more money. I'd probably play that out as long as possible too. Glad he could be coming to us now though.

Yes. He's had opportunities. He's not one of those guys who has never had interest. He chose to stay over seas

I remember being in tryouts with him freshman year in high school. I was praying that I did not have to guard him. He was a beast even back then.

Actually watched him in some pick up games over this past summer and he still has a lot in the tank. A majority of the guys that were in the pick up games all played or currently play pro ball overseas.

I assume our boys Carmouche and Lambert were a part of those games?

And just like in college, Bo Lester can get to the rim whenever he wants.

Just looked at his wiki and it says he plays for the Pelicans. It was updated by some guy with the username DaHuzyBru:
