74.5% of their 3 pt attempts are catch & shoot
88.3% are "open" or "wide open"

LINK

last night they shot 6/21 (28%)
YTD they are shooting 28.7% which is LAST in the league (6.8 makes on 23.7 attempts per game).

is it gentry's system generating all these open looks, or is it opposing defenses giving them away while tripling davis in the paint?

I said this in the last thread about this, teams want our bad shooters bricking 3s, especially when Gentry has 4 shitty rebounders surrounding Davis.

It's like when the Saints were a top team against the run because it was too easy to pass on them, or vice versa, or probably a few of each depending on the year.

I think it's a mixture of both, but the majority of the time I think opposing defenses are focusing on getting the ball out of Davis' hands. Hell, as bad as we are at shooting the 3 I would leave our guys wide open too. Damn we really miss Ryno to stretch the floor for AD. I had hopes that buddy would fill this role, but his start has been really slow. Hopefully, it picks up for him soon.

Have a superstar player that should be surrounded by 3 point shooters.

Have a system that gets 3 point shooters open looks.

Have shitty 3 point shooters.

Makes sense.

Crazy to think we'd probably be 6-5 or maybe even 7-4 with just average 3 point shooting.

Taking out our two blowouts to SA and LA, our average margin of deafeat is only 6.

League average 3 point shooting gives us wins vs. Phoenix, Memphis, Denver, and Milwaukee. And maybe a win over GS.

This team is really bad right now. Really bad. But a healthy Jrue and Buddy getting more comfortable and confident probably puts us in the playoff hunt.

They missed a lot of wide open 3s last year too

Not that it means anything, but Ryno is 2-13 from 3 and a solid 4-24 in his last two games.

He's been pretty good for the Rockets so far this year, but he's in one of his patented slumps right now.

Gordon has been solid for them as well, even better than Ryno.

All that being said, no way in fricking HELL would I be down for paying those two 33 million a year for the next 4 years. A third of your cap space for those two? I'm good.

so i think they have done a decent job w/ spacing and ball movement this year. at times it looks very good.....

and defenses are willing to let other guys shoot because there is no other offense on this team.

same time, defenses also focused on Davis w/ Monty's system too. they had plenty of open looks because Davis will always bend a defense.

fair questions- how much has Davis progressed offensively in a year +? has his progression been a positive one? what role did Gentry/staff play in that progression?

i'll add this- i'm curious to see if RA and corner 3 FGA (Pels are at least 37% combined from there) go up with Holiday back in the lineup. those seem like areas where good attacking guards can make some hay in a spread system

Other than the Spurs game and the Lakers game, the Pelicans have done a good job of staying in games and competing. The offense looks fine. I think this team lacks the ability to close games. That's where I'm hoping Evans and Holiday will provide their biggest value once they return.

This is like saying I'm good at creating 3 point shots for my self. When actually the other teams won't guard me because I'll brick the shot anyway.
