I really like Green...would be a great fit on our team at SF...would definitely be sad to see Ryno go but for Green/14 or 18, i could get on board

As the resident Pelicans fan, I like Asik but I hate this trade, just like I hated the Holiday trade last year. Depending on the results of tomorrow, meaning if we make any trades or not. This will give us 3 straight years without draft picks, and the 2014 and 2015 drafts both seem to be pretty strong. Asik doesn't make us a contender, so we are stuck in basketball purgatory with no assets.

We're at the place where either, we will go to the playoffs and lose in the first round, or be right outside of the playoffs, the place no one wants to be. BASKETBALL PURGATORY. FIRE DELL DEMPS.

Jrue Holiday is a good point guard but no elite, we traded 2 top 10 picks for him. Now lets not put any names to the picks, and just look at it from the outside. Is Jrue Holiday worth 2 top 10 picks? no he is not.

We're giving 52 million to Asik, Gordon, Holiday, Anderson and Tyreke. Really? This really angers me....

Dont get me wrong I like Asik, but he doesn't make us a contender. Just as Jrue Holiday didn't last year.

In the West alone, you have Tony Parker, Stephen Curry, Dragic/Bledsoe, Chris Paul, Mike Conley, Ty Lawson, Russell Westbrook, most of those gms will pick all of those player over Holiday, in his conference alone. smh

I like Asik. A very good fit.

He's not wrong about where they likely end up record wise. It's not purgatory or whatever, but the west is so good and no one is taking the foot off the pedal.

Not getting lottery protection bothers me. Very possible they win 15 more games and miss the playoffs. And we're doing this all over again.

Terrible fit under Monty. He thrived in an uptempo, let it fly system after being useless in Indiana. I like him (cupcake dunk forever) but no thanks right now.

Jesus, people over value the shite out of draft picks... The only thing that concerns me is that there's only 1 year left on his deal, but I doubt they would make this move without thinking that an extension is likely.

Green and a 1st probably isn't splashy enough for most people, but he'd fit in perfectly here. Like others said, that deal really depends on what we do with the 1st. If throwing in a 1st is enough to dump Gordon, then it's a great deal.

Im kinda curious why everyone thinks a Green/1 for Ryno deal would be terrible...

The only thing Anderson does better than Green is rebound, and they just addressed that need with Asik. Green is cheaper, more athletic, and fills a HUGE lineup hole... and he dunks, hard, which will help the irrelevancy

Bring in a guy like Saric, Payne, Hood or McGary with that late 1st and I cant see how that isnt a win

From the PR guy...

A little aggravated that someone posted this on TigerDroppings, at least I feel like I can trust the guys on here as no one has posted anything. I know more than likely it would never affect anything, but I'd prefer to be able to share info and not have to worry about it getting out. A little disappointed, guess I should know better.

Like I said in my last post, I just don't think it's a splahy enough trade for some people. With acquiring Asik, and still having a gaping hole at the 3, this deal would make a lot of sense, IMO. Also, Anderson is a really good player, and even better guy, so I think some are just don't want to see him go at all, which is understandable.

Because AD/Asik/Ryno might be the best big rotation in the league. I'd much rather make this a 3 way trade that lets us keep bird rights and the MLE. Rivers and 3-4 voidable scrubs to a team with cap space like Boston for a pick lets you do that.

Basically

Ryno, #17, Aminu, Roberts, Smith, $5 million MLE, #2 million BAE

vs.

Green, #14, Rivers, Scrubs, $3-4 million in cap space, $2.7 million Cap Room Exception

Keep in mind having rights to a guy like Aminu doesn't mean you have to keep him, but it does let you sign and trade him, perhaps to the Clippers for Dudley and #28 for example.

This whole time I'm reading this thread saying "maybe one day I'll figure out what bird rights are" cause there's no way i'm about to fill the board with a thread titled "what are bird rights" when it seems everyone knows what they are but me.

Unlike the NFL which has a hard cap that you can't go over no matter what, the NBA has a soft cap with plenty of loop holes in it mostly designed to help teams keep their own players. Bird Rights are an exception to the salary cap that allows a team to go over the cap to keep it's own free agents.
