What is there to think about? No one was getting him away from Minnesota.

Its a good deal from them because they successfully scared all teams away from making an offer. Personally, I feel like he's slightly overrated.

Does that mean they chose Pek over Rubio for the 5 year deal, the same 5 year deal they pissed off Love over?

Players coming off their rookie scale contracts can extend for four additional seasons, although the team can designate one player who is eligible for five seasons at the maximum salary. A team can have only one designated player on its roster at any time.

We could have offered a max deal, they would have just waited the full 3 days to match, possibly hindering our chances at getting Evans.

1. He was hot topic on this board for months

2. People were saying $15-16m for him

3. Pels paid Evans $11m to join an already crowded front court

4. Pels have a patchwork rotation at the 5

5. It's just a thread on a message board

It would have certainly cost more, a lot more, to get Pekovic here. And even then the Wolves were saying they would match all offers, so we'd probably have no Pekovic AND no Evans. Would've been nice if Phoenix listened to our claim that we'd match all offers because Gordon would probably be here for a few million less per year.

The last 2 "max levelish" bigs both were RFAs on small market teams that were supposedly skittish to match a max deal. Both teams matched max or near max offers. A Pekovic offer sheet wouldn't have ended any differently than the Gasol or Hibbert offer sheets. In general teams don't let go of their good young RFAs. The only reason Anderson and Evans were available was because their teams were trying to move on from previously dysfunctional regimes.

I don't think so since 5 yr 60 mil isn't a max contract.

Don't worry Phoenix doesn't need anymore fricking, they're already fricked.

That is apparently the important part. According to SI.com,
quote:

Pekovic did not make his NBA debut until after signing a three-year, $13 million contract in 2010. His new agreement is not a rookie extension and is therefore not subject to the “designated player” rule, which allows a franchise only one five-year rookie extension at a time. The Timberwolves, then, are still free to offer a five-year rookie extension to point guard Ricky Rubio down the road.

They also say that he has up to $8MIL in incentives available.

Would have been a good fit at that price. Don't know if the Pels could have gotten him if they offered that little. The 5 years is a little worrisome- he's 28 in January and has missed decent chunks of time already. But it's a good deal for the Wolves and with their other moves this summer, probably keeps Love happy enough to stick around.

They couldn't. If the Wolves could offer this much then they sure as hell would have matched an offer with the same value.
