One thing to look for re: Boogie's next contract

He'll prob only want to sign a 3 year deal or 4 year with player option after 3 in order to be eligible for the 10 year veteran max. That would put him and AD becoming UFA in 2021.
Could be positive or negative depending on how well the team does leading up to it, but I thought it was interesting.

Interesting point. Looks like even after we resign him (if we do), we will have a fairly short window to make a case for those two to stay after that contract is up.

The window for the Pels to keep Cousins and Davis is 3 yrs max. One of these has to happen to extend the window:
1) Win Championship
2) Win Conference
3) Get to conference finals
Otherwise it's Davis to Chicago and Boogie to bigger market in the East.

I feel like this is actually good news. Boogie wouldn't want to be left if AD leaves. Makes it more likely he signs in my opinion.

Seems like a VERY tough task considering where they are now. Let's see if we can make the playoffs first.

Hence why I don't think this duo will be around 3 yrs from now in Pel uniforms.
The NBA has a major problem. The players want to form super teams. The players want to form these super teams in locations that they want to live in. Add that with the fact that they now make so much money that the advantage the NBA thought it was bestowing on incumbent teams to resign its superstars is becoming non existent. They will take less after they have made so much to go join a super team in a better locale.

Most other markets have much higher costs of living. There may be some tax advantages in Florida and Texas, but aside from that NOLA is as close to the most bang for the buck as they're going to find money wise.

It's something that I wonder about. When you have already made $100 million in your career so far, how much value does an additional $40 million (or whatever the case may be) really provide? What can you do with $240 million that you can't do with $200 million? Completely arbitrary numbers.

Problem with Boogie is that you are giving him contract he wants.
If he want to be eligible for 10 year max. Let it be. I am fine with it. Lock him asap.
Best case for me is 4 years. But if he signs for 5 it will mean something
Just play fair with him.

It is shitty for a team like Utah or OKC to do just about everything right and support their star players, only to see them walk away.
However, that is the FREE part of free agency. Players are allowed to go wherever they want for whatever money they think will make them happy. Some guys want what they believe is a better shot at a title, others a different city/organization, others want the $$, etc.
While I get the context of a small market New Orleans message board, it is funny to me that players sacrificing money to play for better teams is now a major problem for the NBA.

As for Davis/Cousins, if the Pels could build a consistent 50+ win team, they have a very good chance at keeping them. Unfortunately, the Pels have not been as good as Utah or OKC as an organization. And it will suck as a Pels fan if they leave, but if things continue as is for the organization, I would not blame either guy for pursuing greener pastures.
