I started this season with the hope Buddy Hield could just add consistent 3 point shooting to this team, now I'm just hoping he can be better than Austin Rivers. I know it's only two games and I'm probably overreacting, but man it seems like he has no ability to score the ball out there.

He needs people to set him up. Buddy isn't someone who will create his own shot. This team in its current state isn't a good fit for him.

Again, he didn't forget how to shoot. He had a wide open layup and he rushed it.

He's fulfilling his life's ambition and he's in his own mind about it. He needs time to settle in. Once that happens, he'll start raining threes like normal.

The thing that has surprised me most is his defense. He's active, he clearly has great mind for the game, and dude even blocked David West in the post (dude is a shell of his former self, just chasing a ring).

I am not worried at all about Hield.

Agreed. Hield has been SOOOO far off on his shot so far. Just obnoxiously missing floaters and layups. It's obviously jitters. He'll get over it. See his jump from summer league to preseason. Give him time. He'll shoot 33% from 3 for 3 or 4 weeks, then 37% the rest of the season.

He's gotta relax and quit pushing everything and just let it happen

Buddy does not equal Curry. He cannot get his shot on his own. If the offense doesn't make him a focal point, he will never get it going. I've watched every minute of both games and at No time are the other players are looking to get him a shot. Everyone is playing their own game or looking for AD. That is the offense.

Honestly I wish Gentry would reign him in while also giving him and the team some tunneled direction with Buddy.

The jitters are expected. As is the case with most rookies.

Hate Monty all anyone wants, but he had it right with Davis during his rookie season. Which is in the mold of how the Spurs do it.

You keep it simple. You keep it limited and you keep it focused. Add new responsibilities as the player improves on the current ones. Don't overwhelm them and break their confidence. You don't throw them in the deep end or just let them loose. Which is how I feel Buddy is being treated. There doesn't seem to be much strategy with how they are developing or using him. Just throwing him out there, giving him general direction for limited minutes and hoping for the best.

Like really obviously. This isn't something you just say because he's a rookie playing worse than expected, you can see the fear and hesitation as plain as day.

Did anybody watch Hield in college? His entire game was him getting his own shot and making something out of nothing. He didn't just stand there and let someone pass it to him

I agree. It's only 2 games in. OP himself said he was probably overreacting. He'll get a feel for the game and his confidence will improve each time on the court.

Buddy looks scared, like he isn't ready for the NBA lights. Which I'm fine with, he is a rookie after all. But it does make me shake my head at this teams approach of taking the college vet because he's supposedly older and has more NBA experience which is just a idiotic way of looking at things.

He didn't have more NBA experience. He was labled as more NBA ready. But that doesn't account for jitters. He'll be fine imo. By the end of the year, he'll be a nice spark off the bench. But the less he tries to do right now, the better.

For sure. He will settle in and be a good player. The whole team is out of rhythm, except for AD of course whip looks all NBA

I'll never forget what he did to LSU in those final 10 minutes against the invisible Ben Simmons. Because of that, I'll forever believe in him.

Against college athletes

Hield has average measurables in a league where he will go up against a freak nearly every night

He didn't have great measurables in college. He relied on craftiness and confidence, or it.

Buddy will be fine. He just needs a little confidence and to get used to a completely different role.
