Great news, Pelibaws

Anthony Davis has arrived. Do the New Orleans Pelicans have enough to ascend with him? The Brow became a bona fide superstar last season, finishing with the league’s best player efficiency rating (PER) and earning beaucoup stat-geek street cred along the way. At age 22, he still has plenty of room for growth — like, literally — but the worry is that the talented but troubled 20-somethings around him won’t be enough to crack the playoff field in a deep Western Conference. FiveThirtyEight’s CARMELO projection system expects the team to go 46-36.

They'll win more than 46 games

Hell even if they do that'll get them the 7th seed

I'm fascinated about how the 1-9 spots flesh out in the West. I really buy into the thought that Utah will be in and I kind of think that Memphis will break down this year and maybe miss entirely. Dallas definitely out and probably also Portland.

Looking at these WARP projection charts Jrue has the most potential to be the 2nd banana, his grey bars go all the way up to 10 for the next several years. Tyreke looked to be about 7-8.

Memphis won't miss. They win a lot of regular season games due to their style. Pels are almost a lock IMO.

IN order, IMO of course

HOU
GSW
LAC
SAS
OKC
MEM
NOP

After those 7 the battle for 8 will come down to UTA and DAL.

Yeah good point about MEM style translating to wins in the regular season - hadn't thought of it that way. Teams HATE playing them.

In the middle of the season on a weeknight with a half empty arena these NBA guys already aren't playing their best ball. Then you've got Memphis "grinding" on you... They just play a lot harder than most teams. Their talent isn't enough to crack the top 5 of the West.

I do agree with you about Memphis. Barring some major injury issues, their style is perfectly suited to grinding out wins in the regular season. I'm not convinced they will have a better record than the Pels, but they make the Playoffs.

I'd say the first 5 are a given

SA, GS, HOU, LAC, OKC - the order here can go all kind of ways

MEM and NO for the 6-7th seed. I'll give the nod to Memphis, but wouldn't be surprised to see the Pels get the 6th seed

UT as the the 8th. Phoenix, Dallas and a dark horse Sacramento competing for that spot as well.

Replace CDR's -1.4 OFFENSE, -.4 DEFENSE with Kilpatricks +23 OFFENSE, + 12 DEFENSE and we should be around 73 wins, which is about right.
