Naming Rights

Naming rights are one of the rumored upcoming positive events about the Hornets. AtTheHive dug up this Fox8 story from October, I had completely forgotten about it but it sounds like a decision could come next week.

FOX 8 has learned negotiations are underway between the Hornets and the Louisiana Seafood Marketing Board and Zatarain’s. The new name being considered is the "Louisiana Seafood Arena, Seasoned by Zatarain’s."
There's no word on the price tag, but sources tell FOX 8 some of the money to pay for the naming rights deal could come from BP. The oil giant agreed to pay $30 million to market Louisiana seafood as safe in the wake of last year's oil spill.
...The Board could vote on the sponsorship at its Dec. 7th meeting.

That is a really good way to advertise and help the city/team/arena at the same time.

It does sound kinda weird. I think it would be better if it were just the Zatarain's Arena.

Zatarain's didn't get $30 million in marketing money from BP.

What a stupid arse and cheap sounding name. That sounds like an arena name for a D-League team or some small city rodeo arena, not a name for an arena that features an NBA team. Why is it so difficult for them to get a legit corporate sponsor for the naming rights?

Real talk Cash Money Records should step up and support the city they were founded in. Birdman is worth like $300 million so money ain't an issue. Some potential names -
Cash Money Records Joint
Cash Money Records Hot Boyz House
Cash Money Records Arena
Just imagine how badass the in arena music and entertainment would be?

That's a terrible name for an arena.

I can live with it. It puts serious money into the franchise and it promotes the state. If you guys think it's easy to sell naming rights to a big name company of your choosing, you're kidding yourselves.

Totally agree. Not sure if any of these guys realize that we are not exactly what you would call a corporate city here in New Orleans. WHen you have any company that is ready to throw millions to the team/city for naming rights, there is not much room for us to be picky. I personally don't care that much about what the arena is called as long as someone is showing the money and helping the franchise and city.

I know they can't all be Mercedes Benz, but the "seasoned by Zatarains" part is corny as hell. I'm just not sure how you make 2 naming rights owners work well with one name. You'd have to at least give Zatarains top billing and call it the Zatarains Louisiana Seafood Arena but then that dilutes the Louisiana Seafood brand they want to promote.

I have to give credit to Hornets247 on this one. They had it up on their site when the story came out, but I missed it and didn't remember it being widely reported, so we put it up on At The Hive.
This could be a great deal for the Hornets, as it could potentially lower the amount of cash that the state would have to pay to the Hornets in a future lease deal.
As for the name, I'm under the opinion that it's so bad, it's good. "Seasoned by Zataran's" is gold.
