Patrick Ewing has no business being an NBA head coach. The first time he's ever been a high level assistant is with the Bobcats/Hornets, and that simply hasn't gone that well.

Yea... I'm not proud of that one. I just tried to wing it and read a couple of quick articles.

Van gundy was always #2 on my list for pels coaches... #1 is someone also that has been waiting for the right opportunity, and that is TOM IZZO... I don't see how people are not talking about him being a very high target.... I know he has turned down many different coaching jobs, but he has never gotten offered a job with a selfless superstar and young talent surrounding him

Tom Izzo bandwagon starts here!

Ettore Messina is what the Pelicans need.

He intrigues me. Why do you say he is what the Pelicans need?

I think you've convinced me this is the way to go.
Won't we be in the same boat as we were when Pels and Bulls were asking Thibs to the prom?

This is who I want. All he did was win championships in Europe, and unlike Blatt he has been an assistant coach in the NBA and now knows how the long NBA season feels.

Everything I've read about him says that he preaches high iq ball. His offense is all about reading what the defense gives you and every single player on the court knowing where they should be and what they should be doing in every situation.

He's a big proponent of running his offense through the big men. His thought is that if the ball is stuck on the perimeter then that is easily stopped, so he wants his players to immediately get the ball in the post that way it automatically forces the defense to make a decision and then his offense of reads goes to work.

His Philosphy is that if your offense is always evolving to whatever defense is in front of you then your offense can never be stopped.

Defensively I couldn't find much other than he likes using TO's to spark the fast break but that's most coaches so idk

My only concern is that he is not a players coach more of the disciplinarian which doesn't really fly as well in the NBA. He preaches post play, getting the ball to your dominant big man in order to free up a shot on the outside. I read somewhere that he said he likes his post players to get 20 field goals a game.

David Blatt & David Fizdale are on the Pels short list. Hearing an interview with Blatt might take place this weekend. Would be a HUGE hire internationally.

Kenny Atkinson, Ettore Messina, or Mike Malone, if we have to pick a defensive guy.

I hate van Gundy ball from an aesthetic perspective.

Van Gundy would be a solid choice IMO

So, we're going to interview Blatt while he's coaching the conference finals without receiving permission from the Cavs?
