Are you really going to argue that a baseball manager is more important than an NBA head coach? That is crazy talk. Really, really crazy talk.

Meh, my point really was that talent can overcome coaching moreso in basketball because there are fewer players so studs stick out more and the game or pace of play isn't as structured and rigid as football or baseball.

That was my point as far as X's and O's. I think an NBA coach brings more value by the philosophy and style of play they instill than the literal "hey, down screen this guy..." X's and O's.

I can dig that and it makes sense. I really don't think basketball coaches make that big of a difference either. They may swing a team 5-10 victories over the course of a season. But talent wins in the NBA..

Everything you talk about relates to positive coaching is my issue. You don't touch on how much a terrible coach can affect a team negatively. I'd argue you are right when it comes to the majority of NBA teams. You could probably swap out 20 coaches and not see a vast difference. But the positive end (Pops and Thibs are my top 2) and the negative end mean so much more. This team has a losing culture and lacks any sort of identity/confidence. Give me any of the 20 coaches.

I think most people would agree with that. I'm not sure I can permanently assign Monty to the negative end quite yet, though. Maybe soon.
