Memphis Grizzlies No. 38 pick Kennedy Chandler has agreed to a four-year, $7.1 million rookie deal, his agent Ryan Davis tells @TheAthletic @Stadium

. The contract contains the largest guaranteed salary – $4.94M – for an American second-round pick.

EJ was drafted 3 picks later, this seems like it'd make a 2 way contract a hard sell, meaning the Pels need to open a roster spot.

Never thought EJ would sign a 2-way and this all but confirms that.

Can we just pay Garrett Temple to retire? He’s been a good veteran presence but it’s time.

Hopefully we can do this. G Temp and CJ and their wives just went to some 4th of July thing yesterday, so from a human element perspective we probably have to navigate this a bit carefully. If I had to imagine some 2 for 1 type trade avenue will be explored and exhausted before we go straight up buy out Temple route.

But I’d imagine if push comes to shove, we will eventually go that route if we absolutely have to.

Theres no reason to move Temple anytime soon. You don’t gain anything by stretching him except for an immediate roster spot. We can keep Liddell on a two way for a while the same as how we handled Naji and Jose

A few of yall keep saying this but if they haven't been moved or even talked about being moved up to this point what makes you think it'll happen before the season?

This. I’d really love to never see either of them in a Pels uniform again.

It was always going to be a hard sell, he was projected as a top 25 player (top 20 some places). We have to make a roster spot for him.

There have been multiple reports/rumors that we are shopping Graham.

Yeah I know the names have been floated out there, Bleacher Report has multiple reports on it. We just havent heard anything since free agency started and I just dont get the feeling Jax/Graham get moved until next season. I just think Temple gets cut or moved before a deal is made for Jax/Graham.

Doesnt seem like anybody wants them

I've been saying it for a while. I just dont' think they are going to release/trade GT unless it's absolutely necessary and unavoidable.
Of course he's overpaid, but i've said it before, go watch those videos they did throughout the season on the team, esepcially the ones towards the end of the season. GT was always the one talking to the team, always the one in the huddle breaking the huddle, always the one talking pregame in the huddle. That is worth more than what the average 13 or 14th player on this team can bring.

I also think the team is wanting to see what Liddell can do before they make their roster clearing decision. They talked about Herb saying the knew immediately that he was going to be able to play. Give the team some practice time and they'll decide if it's not going to be a big deal to send Jax off b/c Liddell can play. I still say it would be very easy to dump Jax somewhere, and i'd be fine if we got 2 2nds for him.

If Liddell gets a two-way, i would see that as a bad thing, not that expecting a 2nd rounder to even make the team is normal, but it would mean that they didn't see enough in him to warrant giving him that final roster spot. And i do not see that happening. They wouldn't be parading him around and treating him the same as Dyson this entire time if they didn't intend on signing him and investing in him.

Fair assessment Teddy. Guess we are just going to have to wait and see what transpires.

I think this is accurate. No rush with the situation- I wouldn’t be surprised if any of the threesome of Jax/DG/Kira get traded at some point this summer.

I think Liddell can play. Somewhere on the Grant Williams/Xavier Tillman spectrum. If we can sign him to a guaranteed multi year deal while flipping Jax for future assets, I think that’s a win.

It would be ideal if Lidell could play Jax out of the rotation, but I’m not sure that happens immediately.

I would guess he gets the two-way deal to start the season, and Jax/Graham play enough minutes to hopefully up their value. No reason to be forced to clear the roster spot now. Kira won’t be a full go until training camp probably, and who knows what kind of minutes he will see this season.

I am still not sold on what Hayes brings to the table. Sure he improved. But seeing where he was to where he got to, I still don't see an average skill set.

To me the question is how much money. He will want to be paid. We haven't got the room for what he may become, nor the money.

Between Trey getting bigger and EJ as a prospect, I just don’t see Jax being here next season.

Too damn much as an RFA to keep and we would be at the mercy of any team with cap space with regards to a trade of him.

I think the biggest red flag and concern for me went off when Willie reportedly told him to just go ahead and focus his development like he is a wing and not a big.

If Jax is just gonna try and be a jumbo sized 4/3 and basically give up trying to become a stretch 5 and rim protector(which maybe, hopefully Willie will still focus on that defensively), then he really has a pretty minimal fit on this roster unless his next contract is a good bit lower than the 10 +/- we are expecting.

Which is unfortunate cause it feels almost entirely mental with Jaxson and his inability to figure out how to play the 5 at a high level defensively.

Dereon Seabron has one of our 2 way contracts. That’s means we just have 1 more spot. If we clear Temple’s roster spot then Liddell can be 15th and we can have Seabron and John Butler, etcc as our 2 way contracts. I don’t like keeping Temple because he’s wasting a roster spot over a young guy who can get poached by another FO. Is keeping Temple for half a season worth losing John Butler or any other player that actually could be on our team in 2 years?

At the very least we could give a center that 2 way contract to challenge Hayes and see if we can find a long term fit. Keeping Temple not only wastes an actual playable roster spot but we also lose a young player as well.
