Lets talk about the Pelican's brass...

I think one of the reasons a lot of fans, or at least me, are uneasy about the looming upheaval is because we are unclear who is giving marching orders. That being said could someone with a clearer picture on the dynamics of the front office clarify the hierarchy and responsibilities?
Is it all on Mickey? Does Rita/Lauscha have a seat at the table? Or does Dell have the same autonomy with the Pels that Loomis has with the Saints?
Are there any people in the inner circle who are basketball lifers? Or who at least care about basketball first and foremost?

The best owners are those who are smart enough to realize that money doesnt equal knowledge. So id like to eliminate Tom(and his mouthpieces Rita and Dennis).
Mickey is a money guy and football guy. Doesnt know the league or the sport.
That leaves Dell. But ive always had the impression that he was doing what he was told to a certain extent. But whos vision are we following? haha

Let's hope that's the case. Dumars the board advisor is probably better than Dumars the GM.

If we are going to bring in Dumars (something I have reluctantly resigned myself to), then I would much rather it be as a board member type than the GM.
Bring in a young, smart GM candidate like Travis Schlenk with the Warriors or Mike Winger at OKC.

Loomis and Lauscha are not stupid guys, even though they aren't basketball guys. And I wouldn't worry much about Rita. Frankly, I'll bet Gayle has as much input (informally) as Rita on this issue. So I think Loomis and Lauscha have been deferential to Dell for the most part.
From reports, Dumars and Johnson have both been "advising" informally. But who knows if they'll be offered any formal positions. It's my opinion that Loomis and maybe Benson himself have reached out to others in the NBA for their thoughts.
These guys aren't going to just take a flyer on a whim.

From what everybody says, Loomis is in charge. If that's the case, why do so many people automatically assume he's going to hire Dumars and Johnson, just because they are from Louisiana?
Does anybody of importance in the Saints organization, which he runs also, have a job simply because they are from Louisiana?

They aren't just from Louisiana, they are friendly with the organization and have semi regular contact. But you are right in that the level of evidence is probably not equal to the level of fear most of us have over it. But the threat shouldn't be dismissed either.

The thing that trumps everything is that they have a once-in-a-generation player in Anthony Davis, who can possibly have the talent to win us championships with the right people in place. Would they seriously screw up that opportunity in order to give their friends, or somebody from Louisiana a job?
If you go by how the Saints are run, I don't think that will be the case.

What kills this team is the draft picks we do use have been busts minus Davis. Small market team we should be building through the draft. Trading our picks yearly for over the hill players. Peja deal set us back 5 years probably. CP3 trade got us nothing. Draft misses I can remember: Hilton Armstrong, Cedric Simmons, Austin rivers, Pondexter. Sure I missed some. Free agent busts: peja after his second year or so, Eric Gordon, stiesma, Gustavo Yao. We had that point guard Collison that we gave away and he still plays, and starts if I believe.

Are you saying that you think Gustavo Ayon was a free agent bust? And that we should have stuck with Darren Collison?
Admit it. You are a casual fan of the Pels/NBA at best.

What I'm saying smartazz is that the front office has dropped the ball to many times. Yeah Collison should have stayed, he would be a SOLID backup. No, I'm sure compared to you I am not even worthy enough to respond. Small market teams need to build thru draft and fill in the pieces with hidden gems and older veterans.

You're talking 2 completely different franchises here. Shinn was notorious for cheapness and nepotism. I remember we got excited when Demps started hiring scouts, so you really can't compare anything pre Benson, or at least pre Stern, and blame it on the current guys.
