He reminds me of Maxi Kleber, which would be an incredible fit on the Pels. Depends if his 3pt shot is real though. He's shooting 46% from 3 this year but only 39 attempts and this is the first year he's taken 3s

Karlo has been very impressive. As one league scout related to me “Really developed over the past 2 years made a big jump and put it all together the last 2 months.”

Matkovic is on the move, but will it be NOLA?
#Pelicans

Maybe this is why they are bringing him over.

Do they need to bring him over just to put him in a trade?

No. They could trade their rights to him. But if they are trading him to another team then a deal is in place and that other team wants him, because his Euro team announced today that he's leaving to play in the NBA.

If he is good enough to trade and be brought back immediately then I would think he would be good enough to be on the Pels roster.

Now that is some good news.

They better not trade him.

Thank you @KarloMatkovic15!

We will miss you so much…

Dear @PelicansNBA and @NBA fans, please take good care of our guy.

Looks like a clip of him saying goodbye to the fans and team after his last game. This is happening. LINK

Yeah there is way too much smoke for this. He is coming over.

Now I guess the question is...will be he be a Pelican?

Just spitballing here.

Its a stretch to say that bringing over a Euro big that hasn't played in the NBA means anything, but...

Could it mean they are actively working on trades and are concerned about Big depth, and see what he is doing in Europe and want insurance?

I'm going to assume he's going to be spending a lot of time with the squadrons if he remains on the team. Although we should have some blowouts in February and could get him on the court early for some reps.

But I'd imagine he's either being groomed for next season when we could possibly lose JV or he's going to be included in a trade that brings back a big. I guess we'll see in a week's time.

100% he is a pelican. I doubt a 2nd round euro stash has any value in a trade

Would imagine it has to do with us having a roster spot open.

I checked his stats. He’s been balling in Europe. Hitting 3s, grabbing rebounds, and blocking shots.

He’s 6’10 and very athletic.

On paper he looks like a great fit. I guess we’ll see what he looks like in the NBA

He'll probably be around the team any day now. He wont be on a contract till after the deadline when the dust settles.

I suspect him and matt ryan both get contract after the deadline

Not really new information but some state side reporting. Keith Smith is more of a cap expert than news breaker, but I do find it interesting that it's still not clear if Karlo is coming over to join the Pels or be part of a trade. That says to me that Griff has at least one trade he's working where Karlo would go out.

Interesting story coming out of Europe today that Karlo Matkovic is leaving Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana to head to the NBA. This apparently isn't just a rumor, because the club shared the news.

Matkovic's NBA Draft Right are retained by the New Orleans Pelicans. They could sign him using the Second Round Pick Exception or they have some of the Non-Taxpayer MLE.

Matkovic has had a big year in Europe. The 22-year-old big man has blossomed as a scorer, rebound and rim protector.

It's not clear if Matkovic has a deal in place with New Orleans, or if there's a trade lined up to send his draft rights somewhere else.

Pelicans do have an open roster spot and sit about $2.7M under the luxury tax. And they could use another big man for depth.
