Yahoo sources say

quote:

Van Gundy, one of the NBA’s top available coaches, and New Orleans officials met in the Bay Area to discuss the opening. The sides had spoken over the phone, but this was the first face-to-face meeting, league sources said.

For now, New Orleans officials and Van Gundy are beginning the process of getting to know each other. Van Gundy had traveled to the Bay Area for his role as a television analyst for the Western Conference finals.

My only worry is the pace he has his team play at. I know people watched the JVG interview about his offensive principles where JVG said the pace is based on players but Monty always talked about playing at a fast pace and we never saw it.

Just throwing this out there . . . JVG may be better than Monty.

The guy is intelligent and has a like-able tv personality. I feel confident in his ability (and AD) to bring in top level assistants. I understand his offensive pace was slower back when he coached, but that was a different NBA. Maybe I'm optimistic but I truly believe this guy has picked up a ton of good info over the years while he's been behind the mic. I think he would be a slam dunk hire.. I'm on board

I think this is the best possible hire...

Proven coach that judging by his commentary, will adapt his style to that of his players. Also a name that players will want to play for as well as a name that will put us even more into the national spotlight

I'm on the JVG pain train boys

That point cannot be stressed enough. He worked under Pat Riley, who went from Showtime to the exact opposite in order to make the Knicks a contender. I'm sure JVG will adapt.

He also slowly changed his offense to include significantly more spacing and the like over time in Houston.
