I get that you'd do it completely differently, I'm just saying targeting a traditional center sure looks like Demps once again trying to add pieces to the roster that doesn't fit what his current coach wants to do or fit where the league is heading.

They appear to have a spending limit so hopefully they won't get a deal for a center done and can keep the powder dry for targetting a wing, dumping contracts if they need cap space, or if he wants to get crazy, actually using the picks again.

Sounds like their best case scenario as of today is to get Lopez with this package or Okafor with a much lesser package and Carroll with the 2017 pick. We shall see.

Carroll with the 2017 pick? Hopefully that is only if it falls outside of the lottery. Carroll will be 31 next season and has shown signs of regression with the Raptors. That would not be someone I would hope they would target with a 1st rounder.

Yeah I would not be happy with giving up a first for Carroll. You could probably trade them Moore and DC and get Carroll back easily, but I wouldn't even want to do that for him. He's washed up.

Toronto will want to trade Carroll without taking any salary back. And yes, this is with the team thinking it will own a pick between 13-17. Obviously if it is 6-10 they would shoot for someone better, younger.

Fine, they can have our two second round picks for him.

They won't have the cap space to do that if they get Lopez. At the very least they'd have to do a 3 way trade where they send out Moore and QPon.

Holiday/Frazier
Buddy/Galloway
Carroll/Hill
AD/DC
Lopez/Diallo

I guess it's not as thin as I was thinking, but how far that team rises above playoff bubble team is all on Lopez being a stud while not cannibalizing much of AD's scoring.

Given the price tag, is Carroll that much of an upgrade from Hill?

That team would equally as inefficient on offense, if not worse. Would be great defensively though.

Upgrade? Yes. Worth it? That's another question.

Carrol 9.7/4 in 27.3 MPG
Hill 6.7/3.7 in 28.5 MPG
Dante 6.2/4.2 in 25.2 MPG

Real Plus Minus

Player ORPM DRPM RPM
Carrol 0.7 0.58 1.28
Hill -1.39 1.24 -0.15
Dante -1.52 0.05 -1.47

I said "given the price" and I would argue he is not. He is getting old and has been on the decline in Toronto. He is not enough of an upgrade from Hill to give up a 1st IMO.

If we trade this year's first for Carrol I will stop following the team. Fair warning.

We need to fire the Front Office before the trade dead line.

I am all for improving the team but at what cost to make the 8th seed with a losing record? It would be one thing if the team was trending upward but it does not feel that way. It feels more like we are just as bad as the other teams fighting for the last spot.

The issue is the Front Office and Coach are trying to save their jobs.

I would love us to dump some contracts (I know probably not possible) and play Buddy and Check and get them some experience.

I agree, but he's a higher volume scorer than either Hill or Cunningham, and while he's not as good of a defender as Hill, he's still a 2 way player. The current team when fully healthy is .500 at best. With Carrol and Lopez the team maybe goes from fighting for the 8 seed to a 6-7 seed team? And how much money will Lopez be looking for on his next deal? With trading away all of our picks, trades and the 2018 MLE are how you add talent in the next 2 years. I can hardly contain my excitement (that was sarcasm)

You know who definitely wouldn't be an upgrade from Hill, though? The guy taken 13th in next years draft. Not for a few years at the very least, if ever

To understand this franchise, you gotta think like this franchise

You know who's not winning anything next year? The Pelicans. You know who's got more upside to get minutes and grow, the 13th pick of next year's draft. You know who sucks arse and is a waste of salary cap? That hill guy.

Add to that, you can't always just look at stats, especially recent ones. Nice Batum was on a decline, remember? Then, a change of scenery and role and he bounced back in Charlotte. This are the kinds of teams with little options talk themselves into

But Carroll is 31 and costs $15 million/yr. I realize that is not something Demps will concern himself with given his tenuous situation.

If you can theoretically unload Asik, you are talking about an extra 5 mil a year for a guy who can actually play. That might be worth it in his eyes if he doesn't care about the pick

Carroll was found and given a chance by Danny Ferry. He is probably only available 3&D in our range.
But - as Nate Duncan stated - he is staring to be 'only 3'.

Carroll is declining since his injury.
2017 pick is 4me to high for him.
2017 pick for Valanciunas. That is different story...
