As great as CP was, his decision to leave left us in shambles.

Maybe if he had left us as a FA a la LBJ, then maybe you could say he left us in shambles. We had the opportunity to get a nice coup for a top 5 player in the league.

Turning CP3 into Eric Gordon (contract, injuries, malcontent), Chris Kaman, Aminu, and Austin Rivers put us in "shambles".

The Hornets/Pels organizational ineptitude put the team where it is today.

You had CP3, DWest, and Tyson Chandler all in their prime in NOLA. All had their best seasons here. Then they had Peja as their next best player, who was past his prime and eating up $10m+ a year.. well, you certainly can't afford to add many complementary pieces since you have major money tied up in the big 3 +1. I guess you have to build through the draft right? lol... nope. Let's send away JR Smith, Brandon Bass, Darren Collison (you can throw Thornton in there too if you want)... draft Cedric Simmons, Hilton Armstrong, Julian Wright and see what they can do.

I mean, I know that regime is looked at as a joke.. but shite. You had two homegrown talents in CP3 and West and a future DPOY DBL DBL machine in Chandler.. if you hit on at least 1 draft pick or FA signing or trade in that time span who knows what could have happened?

Paul gave everything he had. Can you blame him for not wanting to stay here? The Hornets had 7 years of CP in his prime to make something happen. The guy never complained until his final year. Played through injury etc.

Lucky for the Pels we have a redo with Davis. But now we are cashed strapped (unless Gordon for an expiring happens) and pickless going into next year. Our FO has spent big money on it's current core so we need to hope it works when they are all healthy. Let those guys play out their contract and we can then say if AD>CP for the franchise and the city.

You're right on all those points. No blame to CP for leaving, he's still my favorite player in the league. What happened when he left, his fault or not, left us in the cellar.
I'm hoping our front office learned from that series of events and we'll continue to move forward once our guys return to action.

Someone gets it.

After living through the Bower/Shinn clown show, Paul (likely smaller than most posters here) realized he would destroy his body before 30 just by dragging those rosters to a first round exit every year.

God I miss those pre injury days. He was an absolute force of nature. Arguably the greatest stretch of any pg ever from 07-09. Simply amazing.
