Players and other coaches like him. He can be a very good motivator.

But he had a VERY rough year coaching wise. His lineups were dreadful at times. He couldn't figure out rotations and was routinely slow to adjust in game. He was throwing out an experimental lineup in game 83. He also was way way way too overreliant on limited journeyman vets instead of giving young players more minutes. He played Jonas when he shouldn't have and didn't play Jonas when he should have.

He had a rough year. But is there a really good Head Coach still in there, learning from it?

Listen, frick off. The Lakers are in the playoffs, and that's great for you. You can go talk about them on the MSB, you have an actual good team to support, not our mess.

So let Pelicans fans talk about Pelicans topics.

We now have two years of him still doing the same things. Like you said, rotations, slow to adjust, etc etc. I don't think he's a bad coach, but there are things that should be easily fixable that costs the team because he's so slow to react.

Yes, I think he's a good coach. flawed and inexperienced. He will be as good as his staff is early on in his career. He's not an X and O guy, and that probably won't come until he has a good basketball mind on his staff.

He made the same mistakes throughout the year and wouldn't make in-game adjustments until it was too late. He's not the the head coach to lead a playoff-level team.

IMO, no. He would be a great assistant, but he's too slow to react and gets out schemed.

I'd still say he's average to above average, but that's speaking in terms of relativity. The league is ripe with shitty coaching. See our last two coaches.

I think the injuries revealed how bad Willie is at managing rotations. He makes very short sighted decisions based on perceived need. There is no excuse for putting Kira in last night. I get that we lack ball handlers, but you don't throw a dude the most crucial minutes of the season when he hasn't played all year due to poor performance.

If we don't have the injuries, I doubt we notice how bad he is at figuring out who works together on the floor

That's what we are doing here.

Durrrrrrrrr

Bump old threads instead of creating new ones. It's more interesting to see where everyone's thoughts were at instead of creating the same new threads over and over complaining about something that is already being discussed on similar threads.

I don’t know if he’s a good coach yet, but I think he can be with a little tweaking of his staff and players that actually play. I’d keep him.

A good coach? No, not yet. Good motivator and keeping the situations manageable with his demeanor perhaps, but he is a really bad offensive strategist. He is a below average head coach for me at this moment. Could certainly improve but is he willing to really take a look at his short comings and adjust? Time will tell.

I don't know, but I'm confident that the magnitude of hate he gets on Pels Talk is too much.

He's not without faults on the Xs and Os, but again, people take it way too far.

He hasn't had his 3 best players healthy this season...at all.

BI 45 games
Zion 29 games
CJ - Probably only had about 20 games healthy without the thumb

There's just no chance you can fire that coach with those level of injuries when we finished with a winning record for the 1st time in like 5 years or some shite.

I'd still say yes.

Last year he was considered the best coaching hire this franchise has ever made. I'm not ready to give up on him one year later.

Not sure who had a harder coaching job this season with Willie. I know I don't envy him in trying to navigate the season with all the different injuries. It's not an easy job and we reached the play-in despite everything and we saw what we have the potential to be with a healthy lineup.

Tigerdroppings rejoiced when Monty was fired because he was supposedly a trash coach and now it turns out with time he proved he is actually one of the best coaches in the NBA. I can easily see Willie with a similar projection.

Given the turnover at our HC job and the firing of Monty after he went to the playoffs, I think another season of stability has its own benefits.

He’s a bottom 10 coach in the league without a doubt. If you’re being honest bottom 5. I really don’t see how anyone who has watched even half of their games this season could disagree.

good" Head Coach

Good implies not great. Which I'm fine with.

All of the "great" coaches in the league have a superstar or superstars that are healthy. Monty didn't become an even better head coach after us, he got ayton,Paul, and booker to play together. Same with Kerr, same with Budenholder, etc.

Willie is fine. Hes a good coach and fricking leader. I think he's too nice at times to his team. That's what he can readily change.

Lol not even close. Bottom 10 coaches don't get winning records with their stars missing half the season. You're a dumbass.

How many coaches in the league if I said their name, you could immediately tell me about their schemes and rotations?

We say things like bottom 10 and bottom 5 because we watch every game, but honestly, how many other games for all other 29 teams are you watching coaching that closely?

Go ahead and drop that ranking of coaches then

Willie isn’t Red Auerbach but there were some super shitty coaching jobs this year

Well since you're dropping numbers, go ahead and list them.
