I'm salty about the Damian Lillard news

Where the frick was this during the AD bullshite?

League needs to start doing this in earnest at some point in time. Sadly, yesterday isn’t an option.

LA Lakers darling franchise.
Only occurs when it's not them

2 things. First is squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Klutch/Lebron complained to Silver about Davis and probably threatened to get the Union involved.
The second is in both case the league sided with the star player playing in front of ticket buying fans.
This isn't even really comparable to the Davis situation. There have been many ones since then that have been, like John Wall, and I think the difference is those players either didn't make a big deal about playing, or they didn't have Klutch/LeBron to bully the league.

The league is probably looking at time left on contract also, AD had one year left, Dame has 4.

You're right. The Davis situation was worse. The Rich Paul interview, his dad speaking, it was far more blatant than what's been reported by Dames camp

Dame tried this right after they just put in a new CBA.
What’s the NBAPA going to do over this, strike?

I think I agree with this. What AD did was shitty but he I'm pretty sure he wasn't the first person with an expiring contract to force his way to a team.
What Dame is doing is setting a new precedent

Correct

To take that further, even though he wanted the Lakers we were leveraging with other teams that I think could gave become his destination if the offers were much better.
Seems Dame is saying ONLY Miami.

AD was playing a similar game to Dame by only claiming teams which has no assets other than LAL and having his dad shite in Boston, which was the main team which DID have the assets for a deal.
He wasn’t saying “only LA” but structuring it to where LA was the only choice and trying to force it about a week before the trade deadline.

He also evolved his position over time to tighten the noose to LAL.
Dame's agent is apparently straight up threatening teams from the get go.
Also, other than this and the years remaining issue, the "player empowerment era" is dying...and so many of these deals being done post-AD has left a barren landscape of teams with assets. At least LAL had something to give. Portland will have to take on toxic/negative assets to move Dame. They will lose the trade in the short and long terms and receive assets with negative value.

Still waiting for the year where every pick in the first belongs to OKC, Utah, Houston, and SAS.

Davis had only one year left on his contract, and he was saying that he wouldn't re-sign anywhere but L.A., which meant that other teams backed off, because they didn't want to pay a fortune for a one-year rental.
That's very, very different from a player saying that they will not perform the duties to which he has contractually bound himself. "I won't play" is an entire level worse than "I won't re-sign," exactly because it mocks the CBA.
I'm no fan of Anthony Davis, but what Dame did was much worse.

He had more than a year left on the contract when the mess started, IIRC.
He had about 2.5 left, with the final one being a player option, and tried to force his way out right before the deadline when most people thought a decision point would be in the offseason after he officially passed on a super max.

Davis told his teammates at the beginning of the season he was leaving, like a fricking bitch.
frick rich Paul.

True. Davis sold his teammates out. But from Adam Silver's perspective, what Lillard is doing is worse.

I think a big reason for the nba sending out the memo is Lillard and his agent hinting or implying that he if was traded to anyone other than Miami, he would either sit out or not really play hard. Dame pushed too hard to go to Miami and has been more reckless with this trade demand than Beta Toni was. Even though Rich Paul was heavy handed about AD going to the Lakers, they never publicly said he wouldn’t play for anyone else. Dame has 4 years left on his contract and his agent is telling teams he won’t play or won’t fulfill his obligations if doesn’t go to Miami. I don’t think anyone with that many years on their contract have has done something quite like this before.
