Vanderbilt and Trent Jr. without losing BI, Zion, Herb, Murphy, Dyson, Jose, CJ, and Lewis.

Naji to Denver
Bones Hyland to Jazz
GTJ and Vandy to Pels

Gary Trent is looking for at least $20 on a new contract. That gets complicated tax wise. I’ve started to wonder of Naji’s name is getting thrown around so they don’t have to pay him next year. It’s probably only a $5 million raise for Naji, but that matters if you’re turning Graham and Jax into long term salary instead of expirings or cheaper players.

Looking at our cap sheet for next year, I think we can swap Graham salary for a 20 million dollar salary, add in our draft pick and another minimum player to round out the roster, and still be around only 10 million over the tax line (after cutting Temple or he retires), 15ish if we have a Vanderbilt.

This complicates keeping Naji, but we also do have the option to keep him for next year on his minimum deal and then he becomes an UFA the following year.

I think that will be doable for Gayle, and should still keep us low enough where we can slide under the tax line the following year.

Naji has been great this season and is an important presence in the locker room, so I’m not looking to move him either. BUT, if the team is trying to avoid/minimize the tax next year, and is healthy, Naji becomes a bit of a luxury.

In theory he should be behind Herb, Dyson, and Trey in the rotation. And if both Zion and BI were ever healthy at the same time Naji rarely plays.

That’s why I’m wondering if we’re hearing his name as a preemptive money saving move for next year.

It would make more sense to send out Kira and DG for Trent as the make almost 18m next year combined so it wouldnt be a huge jump to go from them at 18 to trent at 20

Love it. You would need to either add kira in this trade or send him elsewhere as he makes 5.7 next year. If you could lock in GTJ for 20m/yr i would do this trade in a heartbeat

Not ready to punt on Kira. Need rest of this season at least to evaluate his potential. Lottery pick. Don't want to be hasty and regret it later.

Best trade for me is the simplest: Devonte, Jax, Bucks #1; and Bulls 2nd rounder to Jazz for Beasley and Vandy. Both play the roles you hoped Devonte and Jaxson would play--potent bench scorer; athletic big who defends--and have one year left on their deals after this season, so no long term commitments + bird rights. I'd add another 2nd to sweeten if needed. Wouldn't go two first. Wouldn't include Dyson, Naji or Kira, etc...

You really think that? No doubt the minutes go down, but I don’t see him not being in the rotation (albeit more 10-15 minutes rather than 20-25).

The thing with Kira is he is 4 years younger than Naji. Despite being drafted in the 2020 class he is still one of the youngest players in the league…it feels less that way because he has been here and we have Dyson who is the 3rd youngest in the league, but even EJ Liddell is a year older than Kira.

He is certainly less proven than Naji, and I have zero interest in trading Naji unless it obviously makes the Pels a lot better, but he should be better…he’s only 2 years younger than DG and is entering his prime NBA years.

Naji is 3 years older and Kira will be 22 soon. Liddell is 3.5 months older than Lewis. You may have lost a year somewhere.

If we make a move, it has to be big.

I don't think we make any big moves. We may not make any. If we make any, I would expect something relatively minor in order to consolidate some end of the bench players for another bench player.

Ok, fine, Naji just turned 25 and Kira turns 22 in a couple of months, so it’s like 3 years and some months. But the point is the same…Kira is still a really young player. The fact that he is younger at all than a guy the Pels just drafted this year and then stashed to recover from an injury is telling.
