I guess Murphy will get the rookie treatment from pels and waste his talent on bench

Like they’ve done with every other prospect
He needs to start from day 1

Can Willie coach 1 game without this crap

On CBS app, it shows Murphy didn’t play but I just saw in other places that he had a big night. Weird.
So he played a bunch and did well?

Yeah, I mean, were halfway through the season and he's been balling out every single game against the opposing teams best players , how's he not starting yet???
Oh wait, it was one fricking pre-season game where they are playing with the lineups

Thanks for starting this thread with that hot take.

I’ve got the over / under on the first Fire Willie thread at 0.5 games.

I am a firm believer in rookies needing to earn their playing time.

Who’s to say he hasn’t already?

He shot 60% from 3. The rest of the team collectively shot 22%.
Let’s just go ahead and mark him down as earned.

For betting purposes, the entire preseason counts as 0.0?

He's earned it in practice. That's one of the reasons that they have practices: to see who deserves to play.

cool.
He's the best 3 point shooter on the team, on top of being a good long defender.
Playing time earned.
To be honest, i really don't care if he starts or not, but i feel like he would be best utilized as a starter. There would be less pressure on him to create as a starter, and his true role would simply be get open and knock down 3's and play hard D. As a reserve i feel like he would be asked to maybe provide a little more creativity on offense, and i'm not sure that's his strong suit, although maybe that's why you bring him off the bench and ask him to do that so you can strengthen that part of his game.
I know NAW looked great and has been talked about a lot this offseason, but i feel he'd be better coming off the bench as the main scorer, and not spend too much time playing with both BI and Zion the first 3 quarters, but just 1 of them, or none, that way he can have more freedom to score and have the ball in his hands more. He should be a top 4 minutes player for us regardless of if he starts or not, and he should be closing out games.

In general I agree. It doesn’t matter who starts. But in Murph’s case his skill set is perfect to pair with Zion/BI. It would be dumb for him not to start and miss out on those first 5-8 minutes with them.

Correct. 0.5 is halftime of game 1 of the regular season.

For me the biggest argument for Trey playing with the starters is what we saw last night with Trey and Herb. They were packing the paint and Herb got Trey at least 3 wide arse open 3s because of it. That's basically going to be Zion to Trey.
People are assuming Willie is going to keep one of his biggest weapons on the bench in favor of Garrett Temple because that's what the last coach would have done. The last coach got fired for a reason, several actually.

if tee murph continues to shoot at this clip the rest of his career, he'll just be the best fricking ever. chew on that.

My hope was that the Temple starting game 1 thing was throwing a bone to a vet.
I expect to not see that during the regular season, ever.

Yeah I have no problem with Willie messing around with starting lineups during the preseason. Things are gonna be abnormal with JV and Zion out anyway, so you might as well get weird and see what happens in case you hit a string of injuries during the season. Maybe you find an odd lineup combo that really works that you can deploy at some point later.
When push comes to shove, I expect NAW/BI/Zion/JV to all be locks for the starting lineup. Maybe they go Naji the first few games to ease the rookie in, but I don’t think it’s long at all before Trey is the 5th starter.
