holiday to heat trade idea

from the ringer LINK
thoughts?
quote:
Selling high on Holiday while the trade market is depressed would make sense, especially if the goal in New Orleans is to keep adding pieces that could play and grow alongside Zion for multiple years instead of multiple games. It might be overly simplistic, but give the best slashing big-man prospect in college basketball history a young shooter that you already can’t leave in Herro (39.2 percent from 3) and let the pecking order play out naturally. The Pelicans could expand the deal to include Redick and Dragic (who could be expiring salary for New Orleans or rerouted elsewhere), but a trade of Holiday and Jahlil Okafor for Herro, rookie Kendrick Nunn, and salary filler (let’s say Waiters and Leonard) would work. If you’re going to be bad anyway, you want Zion learning to use the ancillary pieces around him—not the other way around.

No simply because there are only so many shots to go around..
Now you're adding 2 more guys with Ingram and Zion who need 15 shots a game to be effective

I’m not trading Jrue for Herro and Nunn and filler.

Why Miami Should Make a Heat-Check Trade for Jrue Holiday
you should read it

Miami is in great position to make a move. This season couldn’t have gone any better for them.
With the injury to Winslow, it opened the door for their young guys to showcase their talent and abilities.
Between Winslow, Nunn, Herro, Robinson, and Adebayo, most teams should be able to find a combination they like to make a deal. Miami is in prime position to make something happen on the 15th if they choose to.

I read it. I’ll admit I’ve seen like one Miami game this season and I agree with the article it would certainly make for an elite defensive team.
But a line up of Holiday, Winslow, Butler seems to lack 3 point shooting and spacing in my mind, I don’t care who the 4 is. They’re all similar players, I don’t think they’d mesh.
And I would think they’d be giving up 2 guys with an amazing amount of potential, so they could probably get destroyed by the Bucks/Clippers/Lakers. But if they wanna take that gamble I’m all for it.

Holiday may not be a number 1 option or a closer, but that doesn’t make him overrated. He’s still a damn good player most team would attempt to trade for.

Bam and Herro are near untouchable for the Heat. Bam is playing like a Top 40 player in the league right now.

More than half their wins are coming from single digit win teams. They’ve played a soft schedule so far.
Why would they make a move for another big time player? The same reason why they acquired Jimmy Butler and the same reason they attempted to acquire Paul. They have a window to win with Butler and they are going all in. They aren’t going to be competing with the Bucks, Sixers, Boston, and Toronto in the playoffs as they are. He’ll even the Pacers once Oladipo returns.

Jrue would be a phenomenal player to have if you already have your closer, like Butler. He makes your team significantly better b/c of what he brings defensively as well as the fact that he won’t be relied upon offensively as the main scorer.
He would be an ideal candidate to fit with the Heat or the Clippers. He’d pretty much be Draymond for those teams, occasionally having the elite offensive game, but always bringing the intensity on the defensive end. It’s what Jrue wants to do anyway, concentrate more defensively and not worry about offense.

The earliest 1st they can trade is 2025. Wouldn’t call that great position.

Trade away Jrue and we will be giving up 150 points a night

I’d love to see Jrue play when pushed by a guy like Jimmy.

The Heat are not going to waste their 2021 cap space and the chance at Giannis for Jrue.
Now with that being said, if this season continues to spiral downward (and as much as it pains me to lose Jrue), getting Tyler out of it isn't half bad. Ultimately I think Nunn is a high-end bench guy, but that is still extremely valuable.
