Well, he'll be out for awhile. My main problem will be having to read all the bitching, Monty sucks, we should tank, blah, blah, bullshite on the board.

I don't think we CAN tank with jrue holiday and Anthony davis on the roster, but i think it's time to trade almost everyone but those 2, to be honest and wait for reke to come back and drop some weight and play SG

Advocating a tank isn't bitching

More like discussion of franchise strategy

It's a legitimate topic when you have a top 5 protected pick in the best draft in over a decade

With reke and AD out, we're about to be 3rd to last in the conference and not too hot in the division either. Our playoff chances just took a huge hit. I'd rather tank and get a pick than get none at all.

Well, Rivers should get more PT.

Exactly

I'd love to be a playoff team and all that, but if our two best players are hurt and we weren't all that great anyway, a tank isn't really that bad of an idea

And the thread was made without knowing the severity of the injury

Tanking is retarded from a players/coach point of view.

You can root for them to lose for a better draft, that's fine... but asking the team to intentionally underperform is dangerous and irresponsible.

heres the thing though. We tank every year. we have made no improvements even with better players.

No one team really gets good from tanking. And if we are gonna tank we better tank hard. We made the Jrue trade thinking we would be good. Rebuilding was basically done. But we suck just as much as we ever have. So we have to tank hard enough not to let philly get our pick which I dont think we can do.
So we better just start praying for a miracle and hope this team learns to make layups and defend

I wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't for this thread. Don't be a dick about an injury thread. This warrants a new thread.

Not to mention fraudulent and a disgrace to the integrity of the game. It also is not literally done very often at all. And when it has happened, there are virtually no success stories. OKC is not a good example.

Number 1 reason to avoid tanking is Davis.

quote:

Perception of success, determination and winning comes through spending, and players who can afford to be picky value these perceptions strongly. Dwyane Wade reminded us of this when he briefly hit the market back in 2010, when he spoke of how loyalty plays a part in a player's decision to stay or switch. Loyalty and commitment can be demonstrated through spending — it follows that the more you spend, the more you are prepared to do to win, the more you can offer your players.

Mark Deeks on Luxury Tax Bullet

Davis is locked in NO for a while, but if people don't think Davis and his team are already judging the moves of the organization, they are living in fantasy land. Despite the general myopia of this board, this team is better. It's not good enough, but there are signs of a strong team.

Davis is coming back in a month. When he comes back, they will try to win as many games as possible. They aren't shipping pieces out for spare parts to ensure a top 5 pick. They aren't going to sit Davis with "muscle soreness." He will play, they will play to win, and they will work to build on court chemistry- which, to the chagrin of most of this board, takes time.

Yeah, if Tyreke and Davis are out for over a month combined I'd rather start developing Rivers and showcasing Roberts for a trade than hand Philly the 7th pick in the draft. Someone over on PR had run some numbers on the wins and losses and basically when Tyreke played well the team won and when he didn't the team lost, which sounds about right from what I remember. Unless Gordon is able to go into beast mode for more than one quarter a game, it may be time to consider the T word.

If tanking means Monty gets ANOTHER pass, I'm not down. I don't wanna go into next season with the same coaching questions. Either he does a well enough job this season with the adversity that every team in every major sports goes thru and quiets the haters, or we move on to the next coaching chapter in this franchise.
