A league source told Sporting News that though no definite decision has been made on the future of the tandem of Gentry and general manager Dell Demps with the Pelicans, failure to secure that playoff spot (which has been all but lost) or at least to show “significant progress with this roster as it stands” likely will move the Pelicans to oust Gentry. Demps is more likely to stay, but that’s not a certainty, either.

Here's the potential money shot.

If the Pelicans were to make a change, speculation is that the team would prefer to bring in a combination team president/coach. There are few coaches on the market who would warrant a dual job, though.

Who's speculation is it though? The source just connecting Kentucky dots and assuming Cal is near the top of the short list?

Van Gundy might fit that bill too.

Keep Demps, bring in Jeff Van Gundy and give JVG the control he wants similar to how it's structured in Detroit. Demps can do what he's always done best, scout and find hidden gems to sign, while someone else gets to make the big boy decisions.

I really can't think of many coaches that would be available that would command that kind of power.

Cal
JVG?
Maybe getting Frank Vogel somehow. I don't know.

My dream is Travis Schlenk as Pres and Ettore Messina as HC.

One of the Bird Writes writers threw out Monty as someone with FO and HC experience.

Dude for the love of God fuuuuuuck noooo. I'm hoping you just missed the satire. Not only would that make us look like a clown franchise, we're barely upgrading at coach. If Erman left, we could be in the same situation after Malone left before.

That would be both hilarious and pure insanity to give a coach with no playoff series wins that kind of power. Really really retarded.

The only guys I can think of are college guys for the most part.

What's the rules regarding offering coaches under contract a Pres/HC job. Compensation or naw because of th upgrade in title?

Obviously I would at that point offer a blank check and as much power as he wants to Brad Stevens first. That's obviously impossible and a complete pipe dream.

After that, I would strongly consider making plays for Erik Spoelstra and Quinn Snyder.

Satire or not he's doing the Spurs GM internship that got Sean Marks the Nets GM job.

Talent > Coaching If Monty or Cal has the personal connection to keep AD/DC in town, it'll be ok.

Best story world be bringing Monty back after what happened to him.

And I'd love it.

Just looked it up. Compensation. Rivers went for a 1st round pick. I thought that was the case but couldn't recall.

It makes sense if you are a football organization that isn't quite sure you want the GM in place long-term, but don't want to be left with an organization in disarray if you make that move to can him.

Got rid of one might as well get rid of the other. I'd get rid of GM first and let new GM or prez make his evaluations and get set
