My only complaint is more of Dell and Monty not being on the same page... or in the same book for that matter. That being said, Dell can only get certain players. Monty needs to use them better.

From the outside looking in, it looks like Monty will finally have his pieces. The Pelicans have the potential to be one of the best defensive teams in the league when healthy. Holiday, Davis, and Asik are one of the top defenders at their position in the league.

Monty Williams isnt greg popovich. Give me an example of a small market team signing a bonafide superstar out of free agency.

those big market teams dominated the FA market this summer...Im sure the Laker fans are ecstatic about the Jordan Hill signing

Very true

All of the big market teams whiffed on the stars this year(sans melo but meh)

Now you have teams like charlotte signing stephenson.

Lakers dont have a stable coach in place.

Neither do the Knicks (though Melo wasnt leaving NY for a small market, we know this for sure), neither does Boston. Miami's guy probably wont seem as good now that BronBron is gonegone. It's a perfect storm for small market teams to get lucky.

and it didnt happen.. Lance Stephenson isnt a rockstar, but he was sold when he talked to jordan (who he grew up idolizing) and ewing in a meeting in charlotte.

Considering Miami is not a big market, I'd say them.

What is a superstar to you? To me, there's about 5 superstars in the league.

Hell, this offseason, you've seen Lowry re-sign with Toronto, ZBo return to Memphis, Gortat to DC, Stephenson to Charlotte, and LeBron to Cleveland, etc., etc.

Give me an example of a large market team signing a bonafide superstar out of Free Agency. Outside of the Big 3 it doesn't happen very often. Superstar transfers usually happen with the Superstar forcing a trade. Carmelo didn't sign with the Knicks, he returned to the Knicks after forcing a trade to get him there. Kevin Love is ready to go to Cleveland to play with LeBron. Dwight chose to go to Houston to play with Harden.

Miami is Miami. It's Los angeles east. Players wanna live there and rub elbows with the stars.

Lebronica is a rare exception, "going home" to play after he already sold out before on them to leave for Miami.

The Big 3 are really the only examples necessary to validate what i'm saying

That's their own fault for waiting until mid july. You have even lakers fans questioning if they'll be the new knicks(ie mediocre)

The league is gravitating away from big market teams.

There is no "luck"

Stephenson is a high quality player though. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that charlotte actually has a pretty good core over the lakers/boston etc.

Miami was the only team in the league that could afford all 3 of those guys at the time

Not true. You are saying it's so improbable that it's practically impossible, Love's expressed desire and Dwight actually choosing Houston over Los Angeles are the only examples necessary to invalidate what you're saying. You're the one saying something can't happen.

Do you keep up with nba basketball? Are you aware of the amount of premier players that sign with the big 3 historically? Whether through free agency or demanding trades to them?

Houston is the 4th largest city in America. I'd say that's a big market. Try again.

Love wants out of Minnesota to go to California.

Glamor Market is a more accurate term than large market. Philadelphia should have the FAs knocking down their doors if market size or even media market were the criteria. But I we've beaten this threadjack fear started into the ground enough. I still have yet to see anyone who disagrees with the OP actually address it. Does no one have a comment other than a down vote?

Love wants to go to a contender. he said he had no interest in going to the Lakers during the season. he even said Minnesota was a better team than the Lakers.
