bullshite. Nobody knew that for certain. Also, it is wise financial sense to let the market set his value instead if bidding yourself up.
In the real business world, I totally agree. But in the fantasy land of the NBA, it leaves you with butthurt guys that don't feel appreciated. I can look up quotes or articles, but I do think it was a given that Gordon would get the max. There are too many desperate teams that want young talent. I have no sympathy either, but the Hornets wanted to haggle over price and this is the result.

Fletcher makes lots of good points.

Also, I don't believe that trade was ever actually agreed to.

The original trade was agreed to and was being reported by every major news outlet only to have the League (Stern) veto it later.

Multiple people have said it was not. The media came their pants because it's the Lakers and WWW leaked it to the mouthpiece Broussard to put public pressure on making it happen. It wasn't a done deal.

First off, stern was acting as the owner. Not the commish. And so I think of it as a proposed deal that was reported and after it was sent to our "owner" he decided against it. That's how I see it.

refused to deal Kaman/Landry last year
Not getting the right deal, and refusing to deal them are two different things. Dell didn't want to take back bad contracts just to get another draft pick for Kaman. As far as Landry goes, I'm willing to bet they were considering re-signing him. It's pretty impossible for Dell to know before the trade deadline that we were going to get the #1 pick.

Dell has done so many things right to overcome the bad things. In the initial trade Fletch was bashing, Dell might have been ready to trade those aging players for young ones. Dell had a plan that we never saw pan out. In fact there is nothing I would have done differently looking back on everything thats happened
Marcus for Landry was a good move because Monty didnt like Marcus because of his no defense he was bench anyway. Laundry helped us when D-West came out because we didnt have a decent PF. He was the guy who locked down Gasol and did some epic post moves on him.
We arent looking at FAs this year because we dont want to overpay anybody this year. Next year salaries will be better. And we were going to bring in Batum until he decided not the come.

The fact that Fletcher had a "WHY HAVEN'T WE SIGNED ANYONE IN FA?!" paragraph takes away all of his credibility.
Oh wait, he had none to begin with.

Exactly. That paragraph alone calls into question his understanding of how the finances and contracts work in the NBA.
So, he would've rather the Hornets burdened themselves with big contracts just to say they've been active in free agency? Rather than actually being patient and making sure we don't find ourselves in the same situation we were in with Peja and Posey's contracts? Commit a bunch of money this year with a very average free agent class, which would basically prevent any action with next year's ridiculous class? That's just plain dumb. Absolutely no foresight.

I always hear "In Dell Demps I trust," but I've never understand the love for this guy.
He's proven to be a good talent evaluator and that was why he was hired.

Would have frickED the franchise if the original CP3 trade went through,
To be fair he didn't seem to have good communication with "ownership" at the time. I think Demps needs a senior adviser. Maybe not someone to be his boss, but someone with enough experience and connections that can help keep him in line.

mishandled Thorton situation
I don't think Demps gets the blame for that. The blame for that either goes on CP3, Thornton or Monty, or some combination of the 3, but a 10 minute per game Thornton needed to go and Landry was decent value in return. I'd say Demps handled his end of that situation fine.

I don't think it was a foregone conclusion that Landry was done as a Hornet. We could have easily ended up with Portland's draft in which case we quite possibly would have brought Landry back.
I do agree he messed up with Kaman by putting him on the block and think this is another area where an experienced VP of Basketball Operations would help him. I don't agree that it's a big loss that we didn't get Indiana's 2nd round pick. You're really faulting Demps for not making a move to get Robert Sacre?

Demps is building through the draft and gaining cap room in the process
