Demps got lucky and struck gold because the Kings are a slightly worse organization. That probably saved his job.

Gentry is not the answer for this team.

Gentry is almost certainly not the answer long term, but I don't see any reason to fire him before the end of the season. Give him a chance to turn things around. If he doesn't, it increases our chances at winning the lottery. If he finishes the season on something like a 9-3 run, then he should be brought back.

I don't think he should be retained, but I think the roster turnover has been too significant to make a decision on him based on two games.

Oh I agree with that. This is a test to see what we have. He can't make it work with 2 top 10 players he can gtfo after this season ends

They hired him to coach a certain way

Understood, but if that's the only way he can coach, , he's not really a coach, he's an ideologue.

No. That's like a team trading for Klay Thompson and then telling him he's not allowed to shoot 3's. And then say he's not a basketball player if he can't be just as good.

You wouldn't hire JVG or Thibodeau to coach a spread pick and roll team and you wouldn't hire Gentry to coach a defensive-minded team just like you wouldn't trade for Klay Thompson just to have him play inside the 3-point line.

Phil Jackson needed certain players to be able to run Tex Winter's offense too.

A coach has a system and they can't just make drastic changes and change the entire offense with only 20 games left.

Gentry is gonna get a full offseason of Cousins/Davis. I'm not a Gentry Fan, but I fully expect a little leash from the org to let him put together something during training camp/offseason.

Now come 10-20 games into the season this team still struggles...he gone.

that's great but IMO, if you can only coach one system, you aren't much of a coach.

MJ and Pip, Shaq and Kobe. Remember JVG diagramming the triangle for the reporters and just writing 23 on the board?
