Doctor comments on Ingram's injury

The Pels & Whistles podcast had a doctor that analyzes sports injuries and he gives a pretty good explanation of why Ingram has been out so long with a "contusion" LINK They talk some about Zion too, but the BI talk starts around 10:20
TL;DW it's more like turf toe than a bruise. The big toe is responsible for 50% of pushing off. It's very debilitating and he's not surprised he's not back yet. If you go a week too early he could be out another 6 weeks.

quote:Not to be that guy, but I've been trying to say that it's a sprain every time someone talks about him being out this long over a bruise. I've mentioned that a shite ton of times, and pointed out just watching teh injury, it seems obvious it was more of a sprain because of the way it extended and less of a bruise where you just bang into something.

So he's not just being a bitch, and the medical staff aren't just incompetent idiots that know less than ole Jim "Baw" Bawcon from Bawconville and his magic Google fingers?
I feel lied to by Pels Talk now...
....Do hope it's not too much longer though. This is a rough month

It was obvious it was a turf toe injury . I thought that was understood amongst the board .
You get a toe bruise if you drop something on it . Or step on a rock .
My question is the set back ? Why? Did they treat it like a bruise ? Did they/he try to do too much too soon? . Did the toe just not respond well? Did he tweak it again ?
I said the other day I expect him back after 5-6 more games . If it goes longer than that , color me concerned ?

We all know it's not a typical contusion. The reaction you received was because you were belaboring the point ad nauseum. It was a weird, unnecessary crusade.

quote:Don't get me wrong, the team has officially reported it as a bruise so the confusion is certainly understandable. So that's more on the team than the fans/posters for the misunderstanding.

But I do agree, and the team and Willie as well were all calling it a sprain the 1st couple of days after it happened, but then for some reason it was officially and still is reported as a bruise, which never made sense to me.

People were constantly flipping out over how long BI is out solely because it was only a bruise, so no, we did not "all know" it wasn't a typical contusion, that is a very, very wrong statement.

Setbacks can happen even if you're meet every criteria during recovery. His body didn't respond well when he started basketball activities and that's simply it. BI has always been slower to recover than most when it comes to injuries.

i’m dealing with something very similar and it’s been bugging me for over 7 months now. a setback can be as simple as walking barefoot in the house and overextending the toe. it’s delicate and just when you think you’re turning a corner you overextend again and go right back where you started

on top of being painful and risking re-injuring the same toe again by coming back too early, this type of injury if not healed 100% affects the way he walks and runs every single step he takes. walking and running in an unbalanced way just opens up more risk of knee and hip injuries in the short and long term. we should just trust the staff on this one as much as it sucks

I’ve been to Bawconville once or twice. So many truck nutz.

I had this injury in high school from playing soccer and it was not fun. Basically you’re unable to run normally because of the sprain between your big toe and the ball of your foot.
It’s a tricky recovery process that I as an over eager kid wanted to get back playing and kept setting myself back. Tough to know when it’s good to go. Like most sprains, they never really go completely away. Don’t be too hard on BI he’s not being a bitch. Let him take his time and come back when he’s ready.
