Did the Pels renege on a 2nd round draft promise to Isaia Cordinier?

Isaia Cordinier had a promise to be picked by a team drafting in the late 30s/early 40s, but team reneged at the last minute. Ugly story.

Even told other teams not to pick him because he was guaranteed to be brought to NBA right away. Had to scramble last minute to get picked

Late 30s Early 40s pick. We had 39 and 40.

He did work out for us, one of the few teams he worked out for.

Just putting it out there. No word that it was us, just speculation.

Regardless if it's us or not, I think this is a nonstory. The possibility of change is always possible when you have a crapshoot like the draft.

He was supposed to go 40, but Diallo was far too high on their board to pass on the opportunity.

Givony pretty much confirmed it indirectly in the twitter conversation. A Pels fan said that they had no way of knowing Diallo would fall that far and Givony said that wasn't a good reason because he had Diallo at 31. He ended up going just 4 picks after our last pick to the Hawks. As long as he makes the roster no harm/no foul, and Givony works with/for Woj now who isn't exactly #TeamDemps.

It'll only be harm for us with his agent.

I can't really recall any 2nd round promises in the past.

What a poopoo story. We told him we'd take him at 40 but decided to move up. Get over it. It's the draft.

A lot of 1st round "promises" fall through when situations change. I cannot believe Cordinier or his agent were relying on a #40 promise. Too much can change by then.

His fault for telling teams not to draft him. How stupid can you be?

No team, agent, scout or player in any sports draft that ever happened or will happen in the future would ever believe such a promise. If they had any sense that is.

Anyone who says "I've been guaranteed a spot" to shoo off potential suitors is a goddamn idiot. Especially the further back in the draft you are.

Taking such a promise in the top 5 is far different from taking the same promise in the 30s.

The other dumb part to this story that makes no sense. We picked 33 after trading up. Considering Memphis got Davis at 31, at max he had the opportunity to tell one team on draft night not to pick him at 32? Come on.

So I'm assuming this is the first of those promises to be broken?
