Favors makes the biggest impact for this team (outside of Zion) by far. His overall impact doesn't always read on a box score but nearly every metric we have supports that the team does better when he is on the floor.

There's a lot of stuff that isn't optimal with Favors in theory, but I think Zion is so good he turns a lot of those theories on their heads. Favors may not create space for Zion but Zion still has enough space to operate and Favors' rebounding still helps convert Zion shots into scores. On the defensive side, Favors is probably much better at defense than any stretch 5 that isn't star level would be.

It's not that Favors is a great fit, it's that with Zion he doesn't have to be. I can't imagine playing Melli 30 MPG for instance even though he's the player type most people see as ideal next to Zion. I think we need to get used to the idea of Zion + Bigs by Committee.

You don’t pay bigs 7 figures a year to play less than 25mpg period. Especially when the fit is questionable at best.

The thing is even before Zion hit the court, the advanced metrics show Favors as a + player

I think Whiteside is also up for free agency this year. If money or contracts were about equal, would y’all prefer him or Favors?

Yes.
But money won’t be nearly equal.

Can we just rename the board to "Pelicans Buckets Talk" or something stupid enough to show how undervalued defense is by this board?

The only other center I would take right now (that's feasible for this team with our assets of course) is Turner.

Favors knows how to play with Zion and how to pretty much stay out of his way and let him work. Too many other bigs will worry about their stats and want to camp in the paint to hopefully get cheap buckets.

Zion = center
With 6/6 3 ball shooting Melli as his PF

They might be the ticket. Why do we need a lumbering center anyway? Isn’t Houston showing they are going extinct anyway?

When Favors is in with Zion, he allows Z to leak out on the break bc he is so good on the glass.

Favors might not be great match on paper but Favors is a nice match for Zion in reality

is it really because it favors or is it because of guys like Hart and Zo who are very capable of grabbing boards.

I think both. Favors also protects the rim at which seems a high level as well also require Zion to cover that part.

Using 2 man lineup data the highest Reb% with Zion is Zion/Favors at 58.3%.
Zion/Hart is surprisingly low on the list, 6th at 53.9%
