New interview of Cousins by Marc Spears

Boogie on getting in shape:

quote:

I lost a lot of weight. I did my little training program in L.A. and I like the results. I’m good. I feel lighter on my feet. I’m moving a lot better than I have in previous years. It doesn’t hurt to wake up in the morning and the aches and pains have kind of gone away. It’s definitely benefited my body a lot more

If that bolded part is how he always felt and not referring to recovering from an injury, I'd say he's eating a lot better and the most physically gifted big since Shaq will be the best he's ever been physically.

On the team's prospects for the season:

quote:

We see that we can do something special regardless of the reports or what the so-called experts think about our team,” Cousins said. “We’re very confident. We think we have a chance to shock a lot of people. I’m excited. I wish it was starting tomorrow. I’m excited about this season.”

...We’re working our tails off. His mindset is to win. My mindset is to win. Whatever it takes. We’re doing defensive slides in the summer right now. We’re all in. Like I said, y’all keep counting us out and we’re going to shock a lot of people.

He plans to be a GM in the future and likes that Demps has taken him under his wing in that regard:

quote:

“I appreciate Dell a lot,” Cousins said. “Through this process, he can see that I’m really invested in this team, trying to get the best out of the team. … We’ve also had discussions about how I want to be a future GM. He’s kind of showing me the ropes of how to do this thing. This is the first time in my career since [ex-Kings GM] Pete D’Alessandro has kind of shown me what it takes.

“I’ve always liked to evaluate talent. I like putting teams together. I feel like I could be the best at it and I really enjoy doing it … I’d be GM of the Year every year.”

Need them to carry this team for us to have any chance of us doing something special- Rondo should help this significantly. If everyone is healthy and holiday plays like a 26 million dollar a year player then no chance we miss the playoffs.

Love to hear things like this. Cousin's played at a high level in Sacramento and for the most part was unhappy there. I'm excited to see him in shape and ready to play for a team he is happy to play with.

This is the biggest thing right here. Jrue really struggled post-trade.

If he plays to his ability and the SG experiment works, we make the playoffs.

I wonder what kind of recruiting Rondo can do. Bobby Portis was asked to name his best or favorite teammate and he said Rondo. Denzel Valentine replied to that with "Facts".

He rubs some people the wrong way, but they players that like him really like him.

I think "off ball" really = "smaller decision tree" and you'll see him play well.

I should clarify: at PG he REALLY struggled. When they went to him offball and Frazier playing PG he played well.

Right. People keep saying offball or him as a shooting guard, but really I think they envision him more as a scoring guard than anything else. Look to get his more and leave the facilitating up to Rondo. More CJ McCollum than Klay Thompson.

DeMarcus Cousins says he doesn't want to drop names, but he's been talking to "some of the biggest names on the block" this summer to help improve the roster. Said his priority is to help the team win this year.

Cousins said after meeting with Chris Finch, he thinks a lot of the offense will work through him in the high post.

That he has spoken to other NBA players and was all like

"hey come to New Orleans and play with me"

and they are all like

"Hey man yeah cool I'll think about it"

and he's all like

"K Cool"
