Leonard is a good shooter that every 10 games can put together a good stat line. Terrible on defense rotations and can't close out against the quicker stretch fours.
He's a 7 footer that plays like a 6'7" stretch 4 without the mobility. Honestly if he wasn't 7'1" he'd have come and go in the league.

And many of the Nurkic lineups had 3 defenders, Nurkic plus 2 of Aminu, Harkless and Vonleh. You're talking about replacing 1 of those with Carmelo Anthony. 2 defenders on the floor most of the game is what you'll be looking at.
Aren't 2 of those 3 likely to be involved in the trade so they wouldn't even be available as an alternate defensive unit?

they've turned terrible contracts (kanter, oladipo), a 1 yr player (sabonis) and junk (mcbuckets & the pick) into one year or Paul george and one year of Anthony...
they'll take a tax hit this year but they might also win big, and they have tons of options going forward
