The majority of fan criticism about the Pierre Jackson situation stems from a lack of understanding of the original plan, the salary cap, and roster space/guaranteed contracts.

Someone else brought up a Waiters/Jack for Jackson/Gordon, how would y'all fell about that.

I would love to have The Gentleman back as the 3rd guard. The team could use his leadership and his $6 million price tag is very reasonable for a 3rd guard that can spot start at either position. I want no part of Waiters, I'd move him to a 3rd team like Charlotte.

Because if you can get a player who you know can contribute (even if it's as a role player from the bench) you take it rather than keep a guy who's never played in the NBA. "All star" stats in the D League are pretty useless when it comes to making a decision about a guy.

There is some serious ignorance being spouted in this thread. Whether trading Jackson is a good idea depends, at least in part, on the trade that happens or trades declined. Jackson has not played an NBA minute. He was passed over 41 times in the draft. Maybe all those GM's were wrong... Maybe the D-League has made him a better NBA talent. Maybe part of his value is hype... temporary hype. As such, it is a good idea to get a reasonable haul if it is something you want... It is worth exploring. If not, they have Plan A: he's the rookie next season. These are good problems to have.
So, what do you think is a reasonable haul (since everyone else is so ignorant)? What do you think the Pelicans could get for Jackson? A 2nd rounder or the Heat's 1st rounder next year from the Cavs?

While 42 has a way of rubbing people the wrong way (gee . . I can't imagine why . . . ), I do think that if you get anyone who can contribute, it's a good trade.

This should increase Denver's interest even more. There had been rumors they were bringing Miller back but he said No Thanks.

quote:

Embattled point guard Andre Miller has no desire to return to the Denver Nuggets, a source told Yahoo Sports on Saturday.

The Nuggets were reportedly attempting to bring back the veteran but the relationship is beyond repair, according to the source.

"The vibe is delusional," the source said. "It's a burned bridge. No reconciliation. He's waiting by the door with his bag already packed. The relationship is irreparable. Under no circumstances does he want to come back to Denver.

Maybe if we're using rational thought, but this is Pelicans Talk. Monty blew up the levees and whatnot.

People don't realize if we bring him in right now we basically lose one cheap cap year for 30 games which is dumb. This isn't like baseball where you can bring a player from your farm system.

Exactly. This would be a wasted year to call him up now. Wait until next year. Or move him.

This is a lousy excuse and it's not exactly true. Jackson's agent would have to agree to a certain type of contract beforehand. The Pelicans, under Demps, have been doing two year deals anyway. They could do a 3 or 4 year instead. This Grantland article explains contracts for 2nd round picks pretty well (LINK /). It's not the way a lot of guys on here keep saying it is..

I really don't get why everyone is so high on P-Jack. If Dell can turn him to anything of value I will be ecstatic. D-league players, no matter how well they play in the D-league, rarely ever become good NBA players. Here is the list of the past 10 D-League MVP's... The high lights are Devin Brown, Alonzo Gee, and Will Bynum... need I say more.

2001–02 Fred House, North Charleston Lowgators
2002–03 Devin Brown, Fayetteville Patriots
2003–04 Desmond Penigar, Asheville Altitude
2004–05 James Thomas, Roanoke Dazzle
2005–06 Will Bynum, Roanoke Dazzle
2006–07 Louis Amundson, Colorado 14ers
2007–08 Blake Ahearn, Dakota Wizards
2008–09 Othyus Jeffers, Iowa Energy
2009–10 Alonzo Gee, Austin Toros
2010–11 DeShawn Sims, Maine Red Claws
2011–12 Edwin Ubiles, Dakota Wizards
2012–13 Tony Mitchell, Fort Wayne Mad Ants

Trade Pierre as fast as we can to some schmuck team that thinks scoring points in some D-league games = being a legit NBA player

If we could get Chandler or Mozgov from Denver, wouldn't think twice about throwing Pierre in a trade
